The bullet I used on my moose.
« on: July 10, 2015, 06:09:27 AM »
In '08 I shot my moose in the neck facing away at 37 yds with a 175 gr Rem. corelock, 7mm rem. mag. He just ran. I didn't know a lot about ballistics at that time. This is the old thread I started on that shot. I think page 2 has the pictures of the bullet and more detail of where the bullet ended up. I reload now and use 160 gr Nosler Accubonds. I've killed 2 elk, and several deer shot in the neck with this load.

I shot my moose in 96 at 175 yds in his bed  with a 7mm rem mag 165 grain rem core lokts, double lunged him, he stood up and I was told in my research to put one in their hump, I did and he dropped right back in his bed, the spine runs through the hump area it was good advice given to me and I did not have to follow this long legged creature at all!

I shot my moose last year with a -06 with a 180 grain accubond b/c 250 yards two round 6 inches apart put my cow down right in her tracks. She was broadside with her head to the left  <---- like that and found the bullet in the opposite shoulder about to pass through, the lead it the tip was a complete pass through double lung and everything. What I was told was to just keep pumping lead until they fall.

Shot my moose at about 80 yards with federal .308 180 gr. took two shots in the shoulder and down it went. Maybe walked 3 more steps and down. My buddy told me earlier, hit em in the shoulder and they go right down! Worked for me!

Dropped mine with a .308 180 gr. at about 100yds and quartering away. Went about 100 yds into the brush and finished him off with one more to the heart. Same trip, my buddy dropped  his with a 300 weatherby, 180 gr. at 50 yds head on straight to the boiler room. Staggered about 10 yds and dropped like a ton of bricks.

Mine was just a standard 3x9 burris on my old savage that I use for everything. We did a group hunt in BC and use our normal deer/elk guns and went 6 for 6, with 5 in one day.

First moose in Alaska 200 grain barnes out of 8mm Rem mag 100 yards straight on spun and went over backwards. The bullet hit the heart didn't rip the diaphragm but the hydraulic shock split his liver.

I hit mine twice with a 300 grain interlock out of a 375 h&h. 270 yards first shot was broadside right in the guts  :bdid:  next one was better after the jitters were gone. Quartered downhill and toward me I hit mid neck and it traveled down the neck through the hump and into the far side shoulder socket. He took a header on impact of the second shot. Recovered the bullet as well
