Got on the bears last year but didn't connect. Now I have the area figured out pretty well, built/ converted a new .35 Whelen to carry, got a sweet new Pelican cooler for the truck, and the land got shut down due to fire danger. Time for plan B.

Never shot one, don't know where to go or what to look for other than berries, but I'll be there.  In other words, a pretty normal hunting outing for me.

Berries are coming on good. Look for fresh poop, tracks, stumps worked over, glass, and leg work. Happy bear hunting

I'll be out there on the weekends this season, down here in Oregon. The non-resident tags for deer and elk are too expensive, so I'm just doing bear this year. I'm going to hunt the coastal range and hopefully learn good spots for deer and elk while I'm at it.

The problem is I can't find any bear sign! I've been scouting every weekend this spring and not a single pile of *censored*. There's tons of ground I haven't looked at though, so I'll just continue scouting while I'm carrying my rifle. When I find the patch I'm looking for, I'll start calling.

I don't know if it's a coincidence or not but August 1 is my first day of retirement!  :IBCOOL: :chuckle: You know I'll be out there.

Hopefully some berries are left by 8/1.  They came on early this year.
Cut em!

I took a nice 220lbs meat bear this year on the spring hunt, so I'll be after a trophy this fall season. I always try to get close as I can, and do, but hoping for a longish shot(200-250) with the peep sight to help determine if I should scope it or not possibly for elk.

I'm hoping I'll be ready.  Knee got a little banged up yesterday.  A dog tried attacking a horse yesterday and the ruckus ended up in my yard, aftermath was a little limp.  But fared better than the dog.

I will be at the Gorge for Watershed on the first but will be out there the following weekend. I found my bear last summer - saw him on two separate occasions a month apart. This yeah I'll get him.

Just pack a good lunch and be patient. Cover, water and berries, might be a place to start.
