Setup my "base camp" today and hit the trails for a hike/scouting trip. It was hot even up in the higher altitudes.  With the heat this weekend, I may pass on shooting depending on how far in we are. I am not a fan of wasted meat and with the forecasted weather, we would have to haul booty off the mountain to prevent spoilage. I will scout again early in the morning and track some temps as I climb and look for flowing creeks. My camp is setup to another bear hunter and he is thinking the same thing... good thing we brought our fly poles lol.

Just a quick "dad" comment to fellow hunters (from my wife to me :)) Please be safe, know your physical limits and your targets, and stay hydrated in this heat.

Best of luck!

Headed up this afternoon to the gpw. Hiking in and staying for the weekend. First big trip of the year. I'm taking two friends and my cousin. I'm not packing a rifle this trip. I decided to take the 41 magnum this time. Thought it would be fun to shoot one up close. Have fun guys!

What I seen coming over North Cross a few days ago has me worried about the Blue Berry situation ..I took a short walk in an area that always has blueberries about the 1st week of September and all I found was a sheet load of dried up and dead berries  :yike: The plants were already turning red ! I think if a guy finds berries now he best try hard to fill his tag ..Never seen anything like it .  Doubt I will go ..just to hot ! But again I can always get that wild hair that has to go  :dunno: :chuckle:   Good luck guys

One good thing about berries not doing so good. All you gotta do is find that one hillside with good berries and just wait  :chuckle:

Well....I think my bear hunting plans just took a hit. I suppose buying a house is going to get in the way. Stupid new house.

Kind of thinking it might be a little more crowded than usual because so many fishing closures, but guess we'll see.

Saw a bear last night at 70 yards on a scouting trip... i'm sure he'll figure out how to disappear before tomorrow morning.  What do I care though, I'll be drunk at seafair.

THe wife almost got hers last week on old 99 near Offut lake.  She said that from nose to rump was as wide as my Daughter's truck.  A little over 6 feet.  She said that it was so rolly, polly fat that it looked like it didn't have legs.  :chuckle:  If anyone Knows the Nelson's from Tenino, it was running through their ranch.  I plan on taking my Daughter to a secret spot in Vail next weekend to try and get her one.
