Top five wild game chow
« on: July 18, 2015, 09:34:32 PM »
Figured I'd start this here. Mods, please move if you deem appropriate.  Only 4 legged critters, no birds or fish. What are your top 5 game critters you prefer for their taste?  MMmm, that is a tasty burger 😏

I'll start with mine. Elk, Moose, WT deer, Caribou, Hogs, BG sheep.

No right or wrong answers, what's tasty to you?

Dan, there are forty-eleven thousand members here, and you are the only one who would post this.   :o

I have a bunch of squirrels around my place.  Hmmm.  You want to do this someday?

Well, the squirrels back home are quite a different critter than the little fir squirrels round here. Fox, grays, reds, oh my, challenging sport,  some as big as a cat. Great eating.

I can't tell much difference between deer, elk, and antelope when it's ground. Is that just me or is anybody else like  :dunno: ?

1 - Dall Sheep
2 - Alligator (you said 4 legged critters) ;)
3 - Axis Deer
4 - AZ Javalina (no skunk pigs from TX)
5 - Antelope (blackbuck over pronghorn but either makes it here)

Wheat/Alfalfa mule deer would be a dang close pic.

If talking Washington OTC 1-5 could change in any order depending on feed.  But assuming they all were eating the best feed for taste available for each species it would look like this;

1 - Mule Deer (Wheat/Alfalfa mix)
2 - Bear (Mountain Huckleberries)
3 - Whitetail (Alfalfa)
4 - Black Tail (Blackberries, forbs and fireweed roots)
5 - Rocky Mtn. Elk (Huckleberries)

Beaver could easily be thrown in there too!

Wife's would be close to the same.  But for her I think elk and whitetail would probably be flipped.  She likes elk more than WT and BT.
