WSTA Summer Rendezvous

I had a good time, got my trappers Ed done thanks to George and the other two volunteers ( I apologize I don't know their names) and got to meet some great folks. I also got to throw some money at Bruce for a trap !

I had a great time. Got my trappers ed done and met some great folks. Scored a new fleshing knife and couple of skinners. Few swim threw's and some mink stretchers and a ton of muskrat stretchers thanks to George.  Spent way too much money and learned a lot!

I had a great time, spent a few bucks ..........  ........... wow ......... maybe a little to much ............. never.  It goes to a Great Organization.  If you think you spent a lot of money now, wait a couple of years and than tell us about it.   

I had a great time seen old friends and got to meet some of you new guys and gals.  Food was great, demos were great and a lot of information came out of the speakers.  If you listened to any of the speakers you had to come away with at least one tidbit.

Auction was great and so was the beer.    A lot of people stay after the auction and talked shop.  I think I got to bed around 1:30 Saturday and got up Sunday around 6:30.  Got home around 4:00 and took a 15 minute nap that turned out to be two hours 

Talk about the auction ........... did you buy a ticket for that beautiful skinning bench that those guys built and donated to us?  What a beauty.  I'm glad I didn't win it (and I was only one card away from it), if I did and brought it home my daughter the Pastry Chief would of taken it away from me and put it in her kitchen for a butcher block / pastry table.  I'll post a picture of it in a day or so.

Can we improve it better, please let us know how.

What do you think about having it four days instead of three, something like the nationals have.  Say start on a Thursday (sign in, half day of demo's) Friday kick it off as a full day event and Saturday the same.  Sunday maybe a half day of stuff.

that table was very nice!  I would have love take it home with me.   Four days for the summer rendezvous wouldn't work out for me personally.  This time of year it's about impossible to get time off work. But if I as able it would be fun.

I was thinking about what I liked most about the rendezvous and decided it was the little tips & tricks I get from other trappers.

Seems to me that everyone has something to offer that make us better at every aspect of trapping. Sometimes its the little things that helps.

For example:
I know of several trappers that use engineer/trail marking tape to mark the locations of their traps. I find that it was time consuming to tie off a piece of tape at every set and then recover the tape when I moved on. Not to mention the tape isn't very good a re-using and it always seems to unroll in my pocket.

What I do is purchase cheap wooden clothes-pins and a can of florescent red paint. I spray paint the clothes-pins and use them on brush near the set. I can re-use them for years and years to come. Works like a charm. You can even clip them to traps under water!

The rendezvous is a time of learning for me. Maybe with this thread we can keep the rendezvous going. Anybody else have a one of those little tips or tricks to make life a little easier?

 I agree carp, there's alot to be learned at the rendezvous.  I bought some of the fur handling videos, and I wish I would have bought a few more. I learned alot with them. Mike did a good job making them.
