What are you planning to do with each?

Both come in many flavors.

Lever gun is for brush hunting deer, and the AR would be for bench shooting and yotes

I love the 30-30 lever action for a deer brush gun, don't know anything about AR's.  Good luck, it would be fun to be able to buy those two guns.

 :yeah: :yeah:

Pick your poison.....45/70, 450 or 444 marlin.  30-30 would work, but wouldn't be my first choice.

Savage 99 in .243
Ar10 in .243

If you have to have an AR15 I'd do a Grendel.

That winchester 88 is bad a**. i have been in a long toss up between the 6.5 Gren and the .243 in a AR platform or even the 6.5 creedmore, i reload so odd ball calibers arent a problem.

All good ideas so far!

Marlin 45-70 guide gun (I have always wanted one  :chuckle:) . that leaves you around $1500 ish. So I would go either colt or s&w and buy a good optic. I like eotechs.

What about a little smaller caLiber for a deer brush gun like a 308 marlin express?  Give you around a grand for an at?

If you do....make sure you find an older model marlin.  They are much better quality than the new production.   :twocents:

I would do an M1A  Socom16 and an AR.  The AR would be parts and put it together myself to stay within budget.  Maybe not stay within budget.
