For a brush gun, I'd be looking at .45-70, you wanna be able to thump things if you're hunting close quarters.  I really like this

http://www.gunshopfinder.com/marlin/marlin1895SBL_2.jpg

For AR, get the cheapest lower/upper/free float you can get, buy a nice trigger and a nice barrel.  6.5 grendel is rock solid.  They even have some cheap ammo now in 6.5.

To me, Daniel Defense is wasted dollars.  Machining quality that just isn't required.  Spend your extra dollars on a super nice barrel and trigger and add it to a DPMS free float.   :twocents:

I'd build my own AR10/15 with Biggerhammer and jay.sharkbait helping source the parts. You could build a helluva gun for $2K. I did. Even my wife thinks it's cool and she's not a gun gal.

I already have a 1895Guide so I'd get the 1895LE (limited edition) in .45-70

It's got the 24" barrel

Pass on the AR personally but you'd have the dough left over anyway.
Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

I have a marlin stainless 30-30 and a winchester 1886 45-70 and i have had several browning BLR's,savage 99's my grandfather has winchester 88 and my dad still has a BLR in .358win they are all great guns. My favorites are the BLR and the 1886.You can't go wrong with any of the choices. As far as the AR goes it's not exactly an AR is the Ruger precision rifle  http://www.ruger.com/intro.html

BLR in 358 Win and a Rock River Advanced Tactical Hunter or Predator Pursuit.

You could get an AR platform with two uppers.  One for yotes and bench and another for brush (.450 Bushmaster or .50 Beowolf).

Love the Grendel, man. Hammer and Jay are great resources, too.

Marlin 45-70 guide gun (I have always wanted one  :chuckle:) . that leaves you around $1500 ish. So I would go either colt or s&w and buy a good optic. I like eotechs.

This. Or build an AR.

Not sure which manufacturers but my calibers would be .444 for the lever action and 6.5 Grendel for the AR.

I've got a stamped JM 450 Marlin /Leupold, ported and a complete upper/lower Rock River 458 SOCOM, never been shot.

I took pictures with my iPhone 6, but can't figure out the way Apple puts pictures in different places, so I deleted them.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............
