Wanting to buy small generator

for awhile now I've been wanting to purchase a smaller generator to take with me camping and hunting. It will mostly be used for smaller things like maybe plugging a lamp in or charging cell phones. Wondering what you have and what works the best for you. A quieter generator would be preferred.

you could do with the smaller one,  I would stick with invertor style though.

I have a Champion 3500 (Continuous) and like everything except the noise. It's easy to start, has never failed, is economical, and the price was right. That being said.................

Scott - this probably isn't what you were thinking, but here's something to consider as I was reading what you want it for. You said a light and to recharge cell phones, right? Well, in the past couple of years I've been replacing the light bulbs in the house with LED bulbs. They average about 7 watts for a 60-watt equivalent (incandescent). Just for the fun of it I put a couple to the test - well a couple of lights and a couple of my deep cycle batteries. I hooked up one of the lights in our living room to one of my deep cycle trolling motor batteries. 3 days later it was still working just fine. I don't know the total number of hours because I turned it off when we went to bed. I bought a 15-watt solar panel from Northern Tool a few years ago just for the purpose of keeping one battery charging while I was using the other. I was just thinking that you might not need to burn any gas at all or listen to that noise if you had a couple of deep cycle batteries, an inverter, and a small solar panel.
I also have dimmable LED bulbs and 3-way LED bulbs. A good battery could power an LED rope light and some other lighting, recharge phones and portable video games and have power to spare.

For only that much power, just use your truck. Plug in phone. 12V LED lights, small inverter if you need AC for something. You could even put a second battery in the truck if it's not a diesel.
All cheaper than any decent generator.
Presuming youre not Needing the power a long way from the vehicle.
You could put a solar charger on your batts when parked or start the truck to recharge.
Otherwise, hard to beat the little Hondas I gave $500 for a 2000w Honda, looked beat up but runs like new.
Been offered $500 for it years later.

Swing into Sumner lawn and tractor, I bought a Honda 2000, it runs at 59 decibels, humans talk louder than that.. I got mine for 1100 after tax, you will never have to buy another..

bought a Honda 1 k and a Yamaha 2k after my champion quit.  they are quieter and are more powerful.  a 1 k wont run a coffee maker , hair dryer or heater but a 2 k will.  mike w

Another vote for the Honda EU2000, they run a long time on a tank of fuel and are extremely quiet. We've been using the two my dad has for about 8 years now, sometimes alone, others in tandem to run the AC in the motorhome. Keep the fuel fresh and conditioned, change the spark plugs occasionally and they start/run perfectly.

   I second the fresh fuel.  I use stabil to pick things up.  don't try to double your money on spark plugs.   mike w
