New to the Forum...and Guess on what This Guy is?
« on: January 10, 2009, 07:48:18 AM »
Hi all, new to this site.  My buddy introduced me to it, lot's of good info on here.  Won't bore ya'll too much about me.  Live in central Washington, originally from Spokane, but have family all over the PNW.  Though I'm a native to Washington, I've done a lot of hunting in Arkansas and Missouri too.  Anyways, I wanted to show ya'll some pictures and see if anyone had a guess of what he is.  I won't say specifically where he is, but he's in the PNW and he is wild.  I've been watching him, sometimes at a close distance, for about two years now.  Any takers on what he might be?  I hope the pictures show up correctly on the post, I've been having trouble resizing them.  This first picture is from 2007, the next two are from 2008.

That looks like a young Fallow deer to me, If not young then a runt. But it's just a guess. They have them all over Pt. Reyes Ca. And they are considered a nuisance there. Probable someones pet that got loose, and went back to being wild.

I was kinda thinkin he might have been someone's pet at one point and time.  There's an individual who lives close by where I see this guy and she keeps a couple of exotic species.  However, this person's pretty much crazier than a sh^& house rat so there's really no point in talking to her.  thanks for the link, if he is a fallow deer, I hope he lives long enought to look like that.

What ever it is it looks albino.  Nose and eyes are pink.  You can't see the eyes in the first pic but you can in the second.

for sure looks like a fallow to me.
have seen them and taken them from that size to one nice one that escaped property..
first time we saw them we were at a loss, we called the game dept and they said all you need is a hunting licence and there is no season or bag limit. they are not native and they wanted them gone.
it has been along time since i was there but last time i still saw plenty of sign of the little buggers left in those woods.

they taste great by the way  :drool :chuckle: :chuckle:

Those *censored*s are the host species for the exotic louse killing mule deer all over Yakima area.  SHOOT IT NOW!  Don't take my word for it, call F&W in Yakima.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

I'm afraid my a## would be in a sling if I put a bullet in him... :bdid: if it makes ya'll feel better though, he's not in Yakima.  I don't think he'd survive very long around here anyways.  Now feral hogs, shoot away.  I've bagged a few of those in Arkansas and Missouri

Looks like a fallow deer crossed with a goat.  Feed it some rhody bushes and see how it fairs.

dave8pt.

shane is correct. the game dept wants them gone from the wild.
when we called before they said shot them all if you can. (way to many for that and way to thick were we bust them)
like i said earlier a small game licence and we were good to go with nothing to worry about..
but like you we were unsure so we called and got the green light from the dept.

happy hunting.  ;)

if it is a non-native species then why would you need a hunting license for it? When they talked about fereal hogs on the wet side they said you didn't need a license to hunt them. Unless Aunt Gregorie wanted some mroe money then it would make sense.

the only thing that's keeps me from dropping him is his location and the fact that he's pretty much become tame and isn't venturing far from his home turf.  i'm not one to support the introduction of a non native species into an area because of the consequences that could result from it, more specifically the harm that they could do to the native species of animals that live there, but i'd be lying to you if i said he hasn't grown on me a bit through the past couple of years.  besides, i have a feeling that one of these days, he's going to wonder out of his home turf and someone's going to connect with him.

not sure why. when we called it was years ago now.
we called the office in mill creek and that is what they told us.
after killing a few of them back then i did go back last year and their sign is still all over the place.... can't miss the little ba@$%ds!!! we always use our achery gear because we were usually hunting blackies at the same time.

Pretty sure that is a "Great White Wooly Saber-toothed Cave Deer".  Stay away from it and call the X-Files.  They're carnivores.   8)
