Can't believe I missed this thread! Can't wait for pics..... So much great advice it looks like you have all the bases covered. If it was my tag the hardest thing for me to do is log sufficient time in a good area. Resist temptation to move to another area quickly while the rut is in full swing. If there is one thing about blackies IMO nearly every unit on the Westside holds a buck like you are probably looking for.  So keep faith if you know the area has the does. The record book only tells part of the tale, tons of great bucks never get entered and even more get away. Best of luck!

Good luck.  That's one heck of a tag to harvest your first deer!  Should be able to find a good one.  We will be anxiously following to see the victory pics.

My three options would be go high early in September, find something west of the crest, heck you might even catch a big mule deer west of the boundary this time of year.  That early November period in the heart of blacktail country, or late in the Klickitat area.  What a great problem to have.  Congrats on the draw.

I would alternate that with up in the Goat Rocks.

They are heating up now!  Clouds were on the deck, visibility was poor still saw six bucks in a short hooky day.  One we would have liked to of killed and another nice buck we should of killed.  Even the little spikes were cruising at full speed.  It's about to get REALLY good   You will have them all to yourself after Saturday...you lucky buggers :chuckle:

They are going nuts in my area. In the last 2 days we I've seen 3 mature bucks down, and heard of 2 others. Good luck, can't  wait to see what you get.

The deer activity on thursday 10/29 morning was probably the most I have ever seen in 27 years of hunting.  We seen deer every where we went. There were three of us and came home with two deer and we passed on 6+ bucks.  At one point there was a 4 point bedded 100yrds from the road.  My wife missed, gun was off after she dropped it while packing her elk out. Good luck with your tag.

We went to the woods yesterday- just a few new rubs. Watched a single doe feeding  in a wind protected area- no buck following her. So we stayed at home today  to let  the season end-- Figured they aren't rutting hard yet in our  scouted areas so we are resting up for hitting it hard this week!  Got the  rain gear out-- So excited!
Hope to get my first deer!
will keep  ya all posted- thanks for the good thoughts!

Ma,am, I gotta say you have the best tag this state has to offer!!alot will disagree with me as alot think some kind of elk would be the best tag, but coming from a guy that thinks blacktail bucks are the greatest quarry ( non leathal) a man or women could ever hunt.. if your husband don't feel like going, pm me, I have the lynch creek Hancock pass and from what seen today the bucks are starting to get a little more active..
