Vortex Razor 8x 10x 12x im going crazy
« on: July 29, 2015, 11:33:34 PM »
Well I just sold my vortex viper 8x42.  I loved the picture and hunted with them last season. I like vortex and  I will upgrade to the razor line.  Now I hunt year round deer elk coyotes.  Last season I spotted a herd of deer with 8x glass probably at least 1 mile away, hiked in to the last hill and had a hard time getting a good look. After that I knew I wanted more power. I've been to sportsman s and took the 10x and 12x out side to look around.  I could handle them both and see just fine.  I do plan on attaching them to my tri pod for long time glassing.  I hunt eastern wa, open with big hills valleys with sage and dry grass.  Im pretty set on 10x because of last season wanting more power.  Someone told me my eyes will hurt g lassing with 12x. Do any of you use the 12x binoculars.  What are your thoughts.  Thanks for your impute.

12x would be good as long as you're using a tripod, but then you may as well go to 15's.

:yeah: if these are the ones that will be your primary glass I would go with the 10s and then later one pick up a spotter or a 15x binos for long range glassing with a tripod

10 for primary glassing... 12 are tough for general use which is what my binos are for and the spotter is for long distances or getting a better look

10-42 for general hunting then spend a few bucks and buy a spotter ...

Unless all your glassing is done sitting with a tripod, 12x is too much in most instances. They have less field of view, smaller exit pupil, are harder to hold steady, and are usually heavier and larger.

10x for binos plus a spotting scope if you really need more magnification.

So if I get the 10X. They have 10x42 or 10x50. Wouldn't the 10x50 be Better for dusk and dawn?

Yes, all other things being equal. It will come at a cost of heavier and larger binoculars to lug around your neck.

I ended up getting 12x50! Im glad i did. I was able to put them to use this weekend g lassing for deer.  They did a great job in low light.  I was able to see all the points of deer antlers a good 6oo yards.  Than i spotted deer about 2 miles away. I found the 12 powers not as unstable as people made them out to be.  I could use one handed while hiking but to get the best out of them i put them on a tri pod for g lassing.  Now i do need a much better tri pod. The wind picked up big time made it a little harder to look through. I hunt the open country and the 12s are great. By the way Elknut hooked me up!!!!!!

I just bought Diamondback 12x50 and like them so far.

Make sure to hit up Elknut, he has great deals on Vortex glass.

I have had all three powers (8,10,12) and will always take the 12 power over the 10. 15's are bit big for canopy timber, but they are great for open country, plus you can leave the spotting scope at home then.

I've been running 12x Nikon Monarchs for years. I recently started experimenting with others though. I like my 12's but would have no real issue going to a 10.
