Mystery Ranch help on which bag?
« on: August 05, 2015, 08:47:13 PM »
Read plenty of reviews, watched videos but looking for additional opionions on either bag..

Ok so I'm trying decide between the Longbow or Metcalf bag with Nice frame.. If I go with the Longbow doesn't come with the load lifters(extra$40), slightly smaller bag. The Metcalf includes the day lid, extenders, frame and load shelf.  Longbow is $439 plus the cost of load lifter so about $480 vs $549 for the Metcalf.

The other issue stopping me from ordering is the fact that Mystery Ranch is changing how they offer bags.. Currently you can just purchase the frame or bag but in the near future they are going to a modular system thus eliminating the ability to simply upgrade the bag. Their reasoning is to meet the demand of the consumer and military. So essentially in the future if Mystery Ranch won't sell bags separate and if you want to upgrade you will be required to purchase new frame/bag combo.. Or go out to ebay, archery talk rockslide, etc to purchase used or trade packs.  I kinda feel like not being able to switch out bags is a bad deal! I really like the MR nice frame and after testing I want to pull the trigger.. Would it be a deal breaker for you? Opinions please.

I plan to use frame for day hunting, occasional overnight trips, and day hiking. I want to be able to haul meat, and my extra items comfortably..

I have both bags.  For day trips and the occasional overnighter, the Longbow will serve you well.  I use my Metcalf for trips up to 9-10 days in length.

If you're very tall, you'll likely want to add the lift kit.  They are great packs, you might be able to find one used for a bit less.
