Two Bears, Two Days

Had the pleasure of taking a buddy with only a few hunting experiences and getting him into the woods for the opener. I tried to explain to him how fast things can happen and he got to see first hand with his very first encounter with a bear. Saturday afternoon we happened upon a sow that made the fatal mistake of stopping and looking while we were in an open timber partch and he put her down with a great shot 60 yards! She jumped up a tree in front of her, made it about 10 feet up, then let go and expired right there. We snapped some pics and an hour and a half later we had her quartered, skinned, caped, and in the cooler on ice.
The next morning we headed up the ridgeline and around 7:30 spotted this bruiser cruising across the canyon at 306 yards. I tucked in behind my trusty 300 and sent one true down range. I heard the"WACK!" and he left the ground with all four paws and hit the ground at a full sprint, making the trees in a rage of breaking limbs and crashing brush. Listening intently I noted the last place I heard any movement and after a good 30 minutes we made our way across and started following track and trail, with a few drops of blood, before finding him piled up about 100 yards into the timber. This bruin took quite a bit more work, but by noon he was processed and on ice. Broke down camp and were on the road home by 1300. Had another day off but needed to get home and get the meat somewhere cooler.
It was great to watch my buddy grow and learn. The first animal he watched and helped a bit, on the second we both took a side and had him buttoned up in no time! A smile on his face the whole time and unable to completely process how awesome it all was. I enjoyed that just as much as notching my tag. So two bullets, two days, and some blood sweat and tears later, the meat in at the butcher, the hides at the taxidermist, the skulls ready for us to carve on, and two happy hunters have notched tags!

Sweet! It's always fun when you pull a double. Way to help out another hunter and pass down your knowlege. Good shooting ya'all.
