spinone italiano
« on: August 08, 2015, 03:05:17 PM »
I'm the proud new owner of a Spinone, he's 5.5 months old now.  Any one have experience with this breed?  He's awesome but I'd love some tips, hunting or otherwise.

Your Italian friend is considered a versatile breed, and your best bet is to check out NAVHDA, the North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association.

Parent association: http://www.navhda.org/

PNW Chapter: http://www.pnwnavhda.org/

Our next test will be August 28-30th in SW Washington. All of the testing will be for young dogs (natural ability test)so you may want to visit and check it all out.

Many of us also get out and cross train by AKC hunt tests, or HRC tests; it's about getting out and meeting good people, and enjoying the journey.

The national breed test for Spinone's is going to be in Duval next year. I went and looked over some grounds down there to make sure they would meet requirements for a NAVHDA test for a judge from Idaho. AKC is having there Spinone test the same week.
Unique dogs. I'd never own one but they are cool. Big lumbering dogs in the field.

Have hunted over one several times. Solid dog, imported straight from his homeland. Not a high speed dog by any means but was still productive and fun. Large pointers for sure and not a commen breed in the states.
Not for self, but for country
