I think you should get those last two mounting mounted. Don't know what that would cost, but it would be a great conversation piece.

Anyone know how to score a mouse? Is a 7/16" skull a trophy?

It was so cool. These mice were F*$King with me during my bear hunt. Keeping me awake all night terrorizing the side of my tent against my face as I slept, little *censored*s! So come elk season, I had a little trick for them all planned. I brought my famous perpetual mouse killer. One spot of peanut butter on the spinning rod of death and in six hours I had 10 little frozen mice to look at.

We ran those traps in HS and college to catch live ones.  You don't want to leave them for a couple days.  They do eat and kill each other and it looks like soup when you open the lid.

Ok, not really my invention, I just modified it for my use...

Take a bucket, get a 2" dowel (Like a closet rod dowel). Cut the dowel so it just barely fits inside the top of the bucket, across the top, inside to inside edge. Drill a fine hole exactly in the center of each end of the dowel. Drill a slightly bigger hole in each side of the bucket, so if you place a screw or nail into the dowel, the dowel will spin flush with the top of the bucket. You now have a small bucket with a dowel which spins freely at the top edge. I drilled a few 1/4" holes around the middle of the rod, to I can stuff peanut butter into the holes later, without it falling off.

Dig a hole in the ground, or for a quick set up, place the bucket so that mice can crawl out onto the free spinning rod of death. As they go for the peanut butter, the rod spins and they log roll into the bucket. Place just enough water so they have to swim in the water until they freeze their little cold mice bodies to a slow cruel death.  

I have added a little mousy ramp so I can set my death trap up anywhere, anytime. They go up the ramp, out onto the mousy rod-o-death and into the icy cold water below. Muh-hah-hah-hah-hah! Die little mousies! Die!!!!!!!!!!  Sort of a sick reality for them, sort of like just after the titanic went down I'm sure.... Crawling up onto other little mice corpses.... trying to get out of the icy depths.....  Muh-hah-hah-hah!

wow...ours was a metal box that when they went inside it would trip and a metal partition would rotate.  They would get chucked into a back area that had holes in it.  You wound it up with a key on the side.  Nothing as fancy as your home built.  We wanted them alive.   You want them dead.  ha good stuff.

Yep, cant be any easier than this one. You just pour them out into the fire that night at camp and refill with a bit of water. No muss, no fuss.

OK took a few minutes to picture it  , might work for rats with a 5 gallon bucket....if the rat "food" I put out doesn't work I may try this I have lots of old buckets around here...

Oh my God, that is friggin' genius.  Took me a little while to picture it.  You REALLY built a better mouse trap.  I am doing this next fall..

I am going to try it in my barn tomorrow with a deep bucket.  It is not cold enough to freeze them but maybe they will drown.

One year at Teanaway we set 25 mouse traps around camp and had to empty them several times a day (the camp cook's job).  We figured that in one week we trapped almost 200 mice and a couple of others that I will not mention.  When they became scarce we moved the traps farther away from camp, it was pretty fun.

Polarbear, almost any temp water should chill them down and put the lights out.

They do not bother me at camp.  Fishing is for fools goes crazy at night because of them.  We were in the NE for 2 weeks on a whitetail hunt.  He could hear them running on the snow from 100 yards away right to the tent.  I thought he was going to kill himself, he could not sleep.  We have them anywhere and everywhere we go.  Montana is bad too.  He killed a ton on our Antelope hunts.  I bait bees in the summer and spring at camps.  I take a fishingh hook with line on it and hang it about a foot off the ground.  I will put a big chunk of meat on it.  Under the hook I put a 32 oz pepsi cup.  Fill it half full of water and let the games begin.  They will knock each other off or eat so much they cannot fly or eat so it falls of inot the water and they all drown.  We got 240 yellow jackets on on set one time.

Yeah, we do the bee traps at our elk camp in September.  It's fun and all, butI think I am at a point in my hunting career where I am ready to move up to mice, especially now with the new skills I am gaining on this site.  Maybe in a couple of years I can move up to gophers, then badgers...

...chit, maybe one day I'll kill a $#@!ing elk...

We do the same thing in Alaska except we use a piece of fishing line and two pop cans. Just put holes in the pop cans on the ends in the center and run the fishing line through and attach to each side of the five gallon bucket. Bury the bucket so the top is flush with the ground and push the pop cans to the sides of the bucket and bait with peanut butter. We use tall five gallon buckets and do not use water. They cannot jump out of a tall bucket. We want them alive.
 We have some very large rainbows (some are over 30 inches) that hang out at our fillet table. We take the mice and throw them in the river and let them try to swim the gauntlet back to shore. Very few ever make it to dry land!!!

if you put a string on the the stick with some peanut butter on the end it will smoke em. my buddie got like 20 of them that way in the little naches this year.

This bucket trick is clean, small and silent. Mousy sniffs pnutbutter, on the rod, walks up the ramp, spins on the rod of death, falls in the water, and freezes his little mousy body. In the morning, you fling the corpse into the woods, and go hunt. Works all day, all night, no fuss, no muss...

I am always interested in new stuff though....  how does the string/stick thing work?

same thing as your bucket with water just with a little bit of bait. Just dangle the peanut butter from the stick in the center of the bucket just above the water and bam like you say. dead mouse.

you could just tie the string to your stick in the bucket. I just thought of something better. You could do some research for us and find out if bait really attracts more varmints. Make a new one and put them both at the same camp

That bucket is only 3/4 gallon I think. Pretty small. When they fall into four inches of water, that does them in... I think if I was to try the string trick, I may need a taller bucket....They do seem to enjoy the peanut butter....heh heh heh....

Ever since I moved into the toy hauler, not had an issue with the mice.  However when i was tenting it, I did the same thing you were doing it, we called it the wheel of death, I would use a coat hanger and a pop can just small hole in the top and bottom of the can and let them do the run.

Have you ever got to watch them do it? It is fricken hiliarious. Run run run faster, awww you fell in
