Question about packs for women?
« on: August 08, 2015, 07:18:20 PM »
So I have always been a fan of badland packs myself but I am looking for a good pack for my fiance, something that will haul maybe 3-4 days worth of gear. Badlands only offers the Kali but that doesm't seem quite large enough for much more than a day pack. Granted I will be packing most of the gear but she'll need room for her clothes, sleeping bag, pad, and food. Are there any other good recommendations for women specific packs out there?

Don't have any recommendations for a woman specific pack, but what it really boils down to is proper fit. Google Becca Moffat and look at some of her pictures, this woman is a "bad ass" when it comes to packing, and I know that she is running a Kifaru pack, but unsure if it's the Duplex or Bikini frame.  Some other great options would be the Exo Mountain Gear, Stone Glacier, and Horn Hunter Full Curl.  I have all of these except the Stone Glacier and all of these packs are made in the USA.

If she is just packing camping gear, I'd look at a woman's backpacking pack, like Gregory, Kelty, REI, etc. If she's not going to pack meat, there's no need to buy an expensive freighter type pack.

for most women a gregory or osprey or even an older dana would be very hard to beat. theyre light, fit well, and are strong enough to carry the load most women would carry. like coues said becca moffat isnt most women, similar to my wife, who also runs a kifaru. we made the upgrade after her backpacking pack broke .5mi into a multi mile packout

There is no substitute for trying on different packs to find the right fit.  Take her down to REI and try some on.  Another alternative is the Eberlestock X1.  My daughter has used mine on backpacking trips and as a hunt day pack.  The pack has a lot of adjustment so works well for kids and women.
