It used to be that they didn't want to sell all the multi-season tags that were offered. They drew more names in anticipation of a certain percentage of people not buying the tag after being drawn. That was all part of the plan, and it was said that only so many tags could be issued, because too many  would be detrimental to deer and elk numbers. But, apparently they now have decided they'd rather have the extra money.

They need to just hold a second drawing, or better yet make people pay when they apply.  Would fix the problem.

The state has already done the 2nd drawing in the past. If I remember correctly they did 3 for deer before they sold them all. They should just sell the tags OTC. Is there really any measurable amount of increase in the number of deer and elk killed by multi season hunters? :dunno:
Yes.
Nature. It's cheaper than therapy.

Why do you think paying up front would make any difference?  Other than give the state even more of our $ I do not see an upside, in fact it could lead to less usage by the public.  And do we really want to give the state more $ with how poorly they are managing the wildlife as it is?

Obviously people had things change since they applied, hence the 180 left over.  If paid in advance none of you would have even had a chance to buy them today.  State got paid, OH WELL to bad for hunters if the people chosen do not use them...  At least in the current system there is a chance and the state is making sure that all permits are being given to people and fully utilized.  am I bummed I had not chance in h3ll to get one heck yeah, but oh well.

I can agree with maybe a second draw from those not drawn, but just like those drawn, circumstances may have changed for those not chosen in 1st draw and then we see another delay and tags wasted..

Maybe a Opt in for second draw..?  Email goes out to those that applied the 1st time and were not drawn.  They have 5-10days to sign in and confirm you still want permit.  Then state does a draw from those confirmed and off we go.  no advantage to those living in remote places with a WDFW licensee and/or ability to just skip work to stand in line..

Actually it wouldn't give the state any more money than now.  Probably less actually.  It would help, because many people apply just for special draws.   This would weed out the applicants that have no real intention of purchasing thus increasing draw odds.  Idaho does their draws this way, and it is more effective in my opinion.

I don't really agree with the way they did it but there are 597 stores in Washington that sell tags and what some people don't understand is that even if u were third in line u still prolly came closer to getting the tag than in the draw. I had the tag in 11 nd haven't drawn since. Saw they made the change this year so I knew I needed to b first in line somewhere nd got it. It does suck for the people who haft to work but multi elk is worth it to me to take a few hrs off

I got my elk tag. I arrived at Sportsmens warehouse in SILVERDALE  about 10 minutes after 8 AM.  I saw 2 cars stop and park. It looked like they were getting out so I got out first and walker to the door to be first in line.  I walked up to the counter and said, I want to be first in line for the multi season tag. The clerk said, it doesn't start till 1200. I said ok I'll wait. I asked the guy behind me to hold my spot and got a chair from the store and plopped down and wait for the time to buy. I sat and waited 3 1/2 hours and I was one of two people to get their multi tag. It was worth the 3 1/2 hour wait! The third guy didn't get his tag and he was mad as ....!  Guess it goes to show the early birds gets the elk.  There were about 18 people behind me.  I'd do it again if they have leftover tags next year but, I'll get there earlier after this post.

Flawed system Should have been a draw of all eligible. Not just for the people that can go hang at the counter for hours. Tough to do for a resident that is working in Great Falls
