Special hunt permit question?
« on: August 11, 2015, 08:30:44 PM »
So I know that they mailed permits out in July and prettymuch everyone has gotten them. I drew a wenaha west archery bull tag but I still have not gotten my permit. I had changed my address before they mailed them out but after the draw so when I called the state they told me mine would be about two weeks behind everyone elses. Well it still has not come so I called the state again and they told me I can go into any retailer after august 1 and they can print my permit out for me. Well I went to a couple places and they had no clue what I was talking about so I went to Sportsmans wharehouse and whatthey gave me was a reprint of my license that says "substitute permit quality elk 8/11/2015-3/31/2016" on it under Other Items. Is this really all I need to have on me while I am hunting Wenaha West? Has anyone had to do this before? I just don't want to have any problems on the hunt, thanks for any help.

They said this is all I have to carry on me, and she called the state to figure out how to print it.

All is well. You need the substitute permit, license, and transport tag.

Well, you would also need your hunting license and your elk tag, but I assume you know that.

Several years ago I drew a special deer permit. Never received it in the mail. They said they mailed it but I never got it.

I went to the WDFW office in Olympia and they just printed out a permit on 8-1/2 by 11 paper. It had all the same info on it as the actual post card size permits they send out.

What you got doesn't sound right to me. It should have the name of the hunt, the GMU number, and the season.

You might want to call the WDFW just to be sure.  360-902-2515

I drew a Special Permit, but I misplaced or never received the Special Permit card. Do I need to get a replacement card?

Yes. You need to have that card with you during your Special Permit hunt. A replacement card is available from a License Vendor. You can also contact the Licensing Division for help: 1. Online at licensing@dfw.wa.gov 2. Call (360) 902-2464

Just seems odd that it doesn't say what the permit actually is. What good is it? At least log in to where you get your special permit drawing results, and print that page out, that shows which hunt you were selected for.

Another thought- you got ripped off. I would not have paid 50 cents for that useless receipt that they gave you. All you really need is a printout of the hunt that you drew, not a receipt that says nothing more than "substitute permit." What a joke. If you get checked by a game warden, how does he know you're hunting the area and the season that you were drawn for?

Plus the dates are kinda misconstrued? Aug-2015 thru 3-2016? Kinda makes sound you you have a governors tag?

Yeah I thought that they would at minimum have the hunt name or number on it but like I said I have been on the phone with them 4 times atleast and the girl that printed it was on the phone when she printed it. The guy from the state walked her through how to do it. I have my transport tag and this is a new license that says substitute permit on it. I guess I will have to call them again tomorrow to verify it. I just know that you can call them 10 times and you'll be lucky if you get the same answer twice!

That is the end of the current hunting year.

I realize what the dates mean, but it also just says "substitute quality elk" Sounds like a guy could take that receipt any where and hunt.

I'd print out the "successful" portion on your WDFW records

An officer can look up your permit status if necessary. To be safe, call WDFW Licensing. I think you will be fine.

Well I just got off the phone with wdfw again and they verified that this and my transport tag is all I need in place of my permit. I'm glad to have that settled!
