Wow, I have seen these worms lot's of times in ducks, but never that bad! That poor duck is covered! Throw that duck in the garbage, or toast it in a burn barrel so nothing els gets it!

I got a duck like that 3 years ago north of Pasco. One of the wierdest things I had ever seen. Needless to say my girlfriend at the time never ate duck again.

I shot a mallard hen last seaon that was just as bad. I gave it to Brad Otto a local biologist and he didn't have an explanation for it other than that it was a parasite, something that he see's everyonce in a while. I would discard it.

Meat from an infected duck is suitable for human consumption.
Cooking will kill the parasite.
There are PARASITES in ALL meat. Give me a break guys...man up and face the fact that what ever meat you ingest you eat a parasite or two. Sure that duck looks bad and I'd probably not eat it either, but if it were just lightly infected and no one (meaning my wife) was wise to the fact I'd breast it, freeze it and eat it. Ya eat pork right? How about bear? Both of those critters have trichinosis parasites in their flesh, but if you cook it well you don't have to worry. I've butchered moose, deer, caribou, sheep, goat etc. and always find cysts, worms, parasites in the flesh, lungs, liver, heart etc. Ya just look past it and go on with the job at hand. Just remember to dispose of the parts you don't want properly so you can end the cycle.
Ever open your smoker when doing fish? If you do you'll see little thread like worms doing the hula trying to get away from the heat. Just extra protein for the eater.

I always breast my ducks and have been lucky enough to have never seen this.I don't think I could eat the duck and I'm not looking real close at my smoked fish either.
Thank's for the heads up, I will be looking closer from now on.
Freeze the buggers and use them for coyotes and magpie bait.
