Roosevelt Elk Guide recommendation

A coworker mentioned a desire to try for an Elk next Fall out in the rainforest.  I know nothing about it, but I thought I'd ask you experts for him.  He is in goood shape, and has hunted deer for years.  (Mostly central WA Mule deer). 
     How are the elk herds on the peninsula, and does he need to put in for a special tag?  Seems odd that not much shows up doing an internet search.
     Thanks in advance for any guidance.  This is a good guy taking his Dad out for something new, and wants some help to make it memorable.

I could point you in the right direction out on the West end for elk..I've never shot a mule deer so possible we could exchange a hot spot or two.

What weapon and does he just want to kill a raghorn or a big bull. THere are lots of elk on the oly pen but not a lot of big bulls except during the rut when they come out of the park. IF you don't bow or muzzie hunt it can be pretty tough to find a legal bull. THe CLearwater tag is a special permit that could get you a good bull but only a couple tags so tough to draw but that is for rifle. IF you spend a few days out in the woods in th esummer you should find elk if you do some research.

Thanks for the responses.  I forgot to mention that he is a rifle hunter, and so is his Dad.  They aren't out to get a huge bull.  I get the feeling a raghorn would do.

Dean Swerin is a great guy as is Mansfield.
Mansfield is probably the best out there and has access to gates and what not. You will use MNT bikes too though as well lots of walking, as he isnt into road hunting at all. Problem is Jim only does Bow and ML. He specialises in getting close! He is usaually done though after the first week in Oct as he is full for Fall Salmon, then brats. With 3 pt min's, you'll get your Bull. He'll have it picked out before you go! Probaly even show ya recent pics of whats available!

If you were considering a guided hunt in the FOrks area I would be sure to talk to your guide about what kind of hunting experience you expect. From what I have seen and heard a guided elk hunt could be getting dropped off on the edge of a local field in the dark and waiting for daylight to come and beat all the other locals to a shot at a raghorn or driving logging roads and glassing clearcuts trying to find a bull or really getting out and hunting. Lots of options just know what you are paying for and if your happy with it go for it.

I ran into him while in Forks on a permit hunt in the Dickey back in the day. I got to talk with him at his place, and he is known as an aggressive and productive elk guide.
