« on: August 12, 2015, 10:07:33 PM »

I like the Peanut butter bacon honey bagel for a backpacking lunch for a couple days and my Question is have any of you tried making several at once and vac sealing then freezing for short term ?

Ps I made some last week and used Chedder jalapeños bagel !! Very good 😉

I always pre make mine and freeze them in a ziplock.  Way better to do it that way rather than the day before you leave, adding a time consuming chore to an already busy day.

I have also tried this for short backpacking trip and I really enjoyed them.
Im heading on a 7 day backpacking trip this year and was thinking about making these for my lunches. Do you think the bacon will still be good come day 6-7?  :dunno:

They make a pre cooked kind that I'm sure would. Also you can buy the bacon bits that seem to keep forever in the fridge. If it were me, I'd make one up with actual good tasting bacon, seal it up and try it in 7 days. I'd much rather eat delicious fatty salty thick cut bacon than that other stuff I know will keep, and it won't hurt to try.

How many gallons of water do you have to drink after eating one of those?  :yike:

I started making wraps which are good and take up less space. I lay out the wrap, spread pb over the whole thing, then sprinkle some cinnamon over the top. Peel a banana and lay it on the edge and roll it into a wrap. Cut the wrap into one inch sections and enjoy. Not sure how the nanner would do frozen but its good fresh.

I've eaten them 7 days out and they are fine.  Just make sure and cook the bacon thoroughly.

Anyone tried to use a toasted english muffin instead of a bagel?

Yes, I do it often. The bagels keep better, the English muffins aren't as good when they aren't fresh. I toast my bagels too.

You toast the bagel before freezing? Benefits? Does the bagel keep longer when toasted? I'm preparing for a 10 day backpack hunt, and I think the bagel sandwiches will be lunch for the trip...

I don't know if there is any benefit or not, I just like them better toasted.
