Steel shot spreader loads
« on: August 15, 2015, 11:45:03 AM »
There seems to be a lot of negative opinions online about Winchester Blindside cubed shot.  I'm curious to see what it does on paper.
Anyone willing to donate a handful of Blindside shells for some pattern testing?  Personal experience to relay?

Thanks.

I don't understand why guys shoot designer loads. If you shooting birds in range 2 3/4 4's will do it all day.

I primarily shoot 2-3/4'' for anything and everything, including geese.  The people that I've talked to about Blindside are primarily negative on it and say the pattern spreads rapidly.  I'm betting there are trial boxes of Blindside that have been shelved into dark corners all over the state.

Cubed shot is a very old school solution for short range spreader loads.  I'd like to see what it does on paper, especially in the smaller shot sizes.  Just don't want another partial box taking up shelf space after testing.

I should have put more thought into this.  It could have been posted as an "Odd shotshells for trade thread" and ran it as a "pay it forward".

I have a partial box of factory Federal 12 gauge, 2-3/4'', containing 1-1/4 oz. of steel BB's that I'd like to trade.  Box has 18 shells.  I'd like to trade it for a five pack of Blindside.   :chuckle:   :dunno:

next month I will be patterning my gun with it, just to see what it does, I think we will have some extra when were done, and if so, I will send you a handful.

Let me know when/if you head through Olympia.  We could meet right off the freeway somewhere.

Why not just buy a box and give it a go.  That is what I did.  Tore up birds pretty good close range, out further 40-50 yards the pattern goes to hell as it slows down.  I wasn't to impressed with it, but it is like any shell under 20 yards, it kills the birds if your aim is on and have the correct choke in your gun.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!

WSU- your PM inbox is full.  Did you want those Federal BB's?
I'll be at the Cabelas in Lacy later this week.  Maybe we can tie a swap in then.
