Opinons on Hogue Rubber Molded Stock
« on: August 05, 2015, 10:59:12 PM »
I have a Weatherby vanguard s2 and I like the weight and feel of these Hogue stocks. The one I have been trying to research comes in a Standard Pillar Bed which is supposed to free float my barrel.

Typically I would think this is a good thing and that this would increase accuracy but since the Vanguard isn't floated from the factory, it leaves me to speculate that it won't improve accuracy but possibly do the opposite.

Has anyone done this to there long action vanguard?

A remarkable experience is one where the pain is forgotten so quickly, the frustrations and struggles are forgotten the minute you’re done.

I can’t wait to do it the next time.

Any barrel that is free floated will be more accurate and have you shooting tighter groups. The stock is a good choice, you should be very pleased.

I love mine. A touch heavier than my old wood stock but it fits better and free floats my barrel. Grip area feels great with a palm swell as well. Very well made and rugged. Nothing too fancy, it just works and feels great! Has a good butpad on it too.

Helps when barrel heats up, works if wooden stock get wet and warps, and the harmonic vibrations work better.

I switched out the stock on my .204 Ruger VTR with a hogue and absolutely love it.  Winter coyote hunting and not having to worry about the grip being wet is great.

While I agree with what has been said, one thing to consider is the rubbers ability to grab or stick to things. Particularly your clothing. To me it would depend on the use of the rifle when it came to a hoque stock. If its going to be a brush gun by any means, where fast action may happen I would seriously look at how the rubber grabs on to your hunting gear when in those situations.  :twocents:

I have one on a 10-22 and as advertised it fits well and does feel nice when in position but like I said it grabs every bit of clothing on the way to your shoulder.

As much as I appreciate my rifles with wood stocks, I do own a Howa with the Hogue stock, very happy with it, its durable, gives a nice grip and allowed me to pick an earth color for my coyote gun.

Another thing about that is if you use a scabbard, either on a horse or an Eberlestock it will grab those too and make it difficult to remove in a hurry.

Sorry revisiting this thread that I created. I ended up getting the same stock for my rem 700 before I did the vanguard and I will say that it made me very happy with improving my old reliable 270. Love the stock will be buying one for the s2 now.
