Help plz!!
« on: August 11, 2015, 11:02:46 AM »
Well of course this happens right before season starts. Where to start. The serving on one end of the cables came loose. Had that redone, the guy at ranch and home said the cable is hitting cam. And that factory martin strings did that because they r a big diameter? Dunno. But now I noticed my hdx drop away rest is over tensioning now. And now the other end of my cable serving is coming loose as well. So then there's the d loop. My knock has almost a 1/4" of play inside d loop and I tried to get the guy at ranch and home to fix it but had a lot of customers so no time. I got the new arrows in the 300 spine and had tuned my bow with the 350 spine but have not with the 300. I sighted in for field points and have been getting comfortable with shooting out to 60 yards keeping decent grouping. So I decided to start shooting with my broadheads ( when I broadhead tuned with my 350 spine I was hitting within 2" of field points in any direction) but now with the 300 spine my broadhead hit 4-5" right of the field points I tried following Easton's tuning guide moving rest and decreasing draw weight none of them worked. Could it be my rest being that it is overdrawing? I went and grabbed a couple of the 350 spine and even with my bow being all jacked up and outta whack I was hitting within 2" of field points. Does this mean 300 spine is just wrong for my setup? Aaaarrrgh this has to happen a couple weeks away from season and we r gonna be starting to dig potatoes on the farm so I'm gonna be super busy and not have a lot of time for retuning. Any tips on what I should do? Should I just fix up my bow and shoot the 350's for now since it seems to be working?

To me it sounds like your bow could be all sorts out of tune. Ranch and home doesn't sound like a hardcore bow shop where all they do is bows. Are there any other bow shops around you? If a guy knows what hes doing it shouldn't really take all that long to tune your bow. The guys who owns the shop I go to tunes me in less than 30 minutes. My field points and 2 different broadhead types all hit the same.

I'd be talking with Martin about it or going to a bow shop in Yakima that you have confidence in. Ranch and Home is little better than Sportsmens'. Ranch and Home should have been on the horn with Martin to get you new strings if it has been a recurring problem that they've been seeing. They're archery department is a couple of young guys that they sent through the Hoyt archery school but don't have all that much time in the archery industrie. :twocents:

If you ever make it to Yakima I would suggest Mike at Grizzly Archery. He's a great guy and has always done good work on my bows.

Make the 45 minute drive to Steves Archery shop in Walla Walla. Take the Tausic Way (airport and community college exit.) take a right at the bottom of the ramp then take a right at the light onto Isaacs. Shop will be on your right just past Nixons Marine. Steve will have you fixed up in no time, and he will explain it to you as he does it.

Thanks for the tips. Sounds like if I get a chance I need to run to yakima and try that out hopefully someone will finally help me tune my bow ranch and home, sportsmans and Steve's archery told me that they don't tune bows. Steve at Steve's archery in walla walla checked my cam timing and said I needed to do the rest myself. So hopefully yakima will be the answer

Paper tuning and such, is much more an individuals sort of responsibility. Your grip and form is more than likely different than mine would be, so if you have somebody tune your bow it'll be tuned to them instead of you. If paper tuning is what your thinking of I'd be glad to help you out figuring out how to do it.

That's odd, He has a roll of butcher block paper in the back of his shop on the range to do paper tuning, or he used too. he helped me a lot when I bought my first bow

So I called grizzly archery in yakima and he said he had over 40 bows to tune and it wouldn't be done by hunting season:( so I went to ranch and home and had them reserve my cable. He said if it happens again he will call martin and get them to send a new cam they have come out with that won't rub. My qad rest he said that the indicator lines on rest don't have to match up? They always did before. He sort of fixed my d loop my knock still has about 1/4" of play up and down but a lot better than it was. I asked him about broadhead tuning and he said no matter how much u tune broadheads won't hit the same as field points. Only every great once in a while. I don't believe that. I noticed that my arrows are fish tailing from side to side in flight. I plan on bareshaft tuning before i broadhead tuneI will use Easton's tuning guide any tips would be appreciated. Right now my broadheads hit 2-3" right of my field points at 20 yrds

Yeah that is a lie. I have 2 different types of broadheads that will split field points if I shoot at the same spot.
