Anyone else have problems with Shaffer arrow rest?
« on: July 27, 2015, 10:46:29 PM »
Switched to AAE Max Hunter vanes and it seems I'm getting some vane contact. The Shaffer requires the cock vane down and for me to not get any apparent contact I need to turn the arrow 1/8th of a turn. Then it would seem that I then needed to bring the rest in toward the riser 1/8th inch too... Anyone else have to do this or have issues with the slightly bigger vanes compared to Blazers?

Problem solved! Not the rest's fault at all! Monkeyed around with the bow set up and it went WAY out of tune. Ended up bugging Gary at Riverside for over an hour to get it dialed in. Thanks Gary! All set and punching beautiful bullet holes in paper and sending and arrow down range rather beautifully once again.

I get my bow tuned once a year maybe twice if I think something is out of wack. If you shoot good normally then all the sudden your not make sure your bow is tuned  . If you barely shoot during the year once a year should be fine. Its nice knowing its not the bow if you make a bad shot  :bash:

Interesting problem arose... The vertical posts were not seperating quickly enough due to my own mistake in trying to lubricate the rails. Bought a new rest and now, with bow tuned I'm dialed. Good to go and not a moment too soon!

:yeah: Mine started squealing like a stuck pig. I lubed the rails, my shots started to drift and my vanes were showing signs of rubbing on the rest. Went back to a Ripcord and bingo, back in business.

I've feared for this as well but when tuned, I have a hard time finding a better alternative. I love the locking mechanism for stalking or stand/blind hunting and otherwise it's flawless. Perhaps another year with the Shaffer and if it fails, I'll go another direction.

Thanks for input all.

Best of luck to everyone in a few short days!
