Did you try and save the meat at least?

What is a shame is that WDFW will fine the holy crap out of you if you tried to do the right thing and put this animal to use. Sure it's ok if you put your tag on it. It always makes me sad to see fresh killed deer that have to go to waste such as a fresh road kill. If a deer ruins my car why am I not allowed to take the backstraps if they are in decent enough shape? anyway, I could go on about this all day. Hope you find the shooter.

:yeah:  Don't get me started about WDFW's ridiculous policies.

Too hot for that deer to be any good to eat. With the temperature and intestines still in the deer, that thing is toast. But it was definetly worth the try.

I shot my buck this year in the evening and had to leave it over night..temp at 5:40 am was 61 deg out.. I found the buck around 7:30 am and deer meat was fine

Not something I would have posted on a Public Forum, but to each their own I guess.

Why? He is trying to find the shooter and tag holder. Seems like this was the ethical and moral thing to do. Why shouldn't you try to help get a tag on this buck and get it to the shooter? I'm sure whoever shot it would like to have it. I really don't understand your logic here.

Fair point.
My logic was concerning the Anti's and what they would turn this into.  Nothing more.

This thought did cross my mind as well, but I thought it was worth the long shot of someone seeing it and owning up to the deer.  The thought also crossed my mind to cover the deer laying there with a sheet or something in order to keep it out of public view, but I couldn't find anything in my pickup to cover it with.

Gentlemen...the "anti's" don't care if you do EVERYTHING by the book....they hate us anyways.  :twocents:

You should of put a yellow sheet over it, like the cops do, when they cover a dead person. You would of gotten it on the news I bet..

I had a similar experience and my meat is fine.

Of course cooled quickly is best, but I've had this experience as well.  Now, if it was gutshot, lived for a while circulating that yuck through it's system, and then sat somewhat warmish overnight, different story.

My 2013 bull was liver/gut shot and I had to leave him over night. He was fine. My buck this year was liver shot left him overnight he was fine. The tenderloins are no good after a night like that but the rest of the meat should be ok. In fairness though I have a meat cooler so I am able to get the meat cooled very quickly after I find the animals. I also found them first thing in the AM. In total I have had to let 3 animals sit over night and they have all turned out fine. My buck this year was the longest as I didn't find him until about 11 am. It was pretty hot an honestly I was worried. It turned out ok though but I think I pushed it as far as I could.

I was thinking the meat is probably fine.  Looks like I am not alone in that regard.  I like to find animals ASAP though and have found that there is still nothing that beats the Coleman Double Mantle Powerhouse white gas lantern for that job.

It all depends ive left them and come back, they have smelled rotten by 9am and Ive had to eat my tag instead of deer meat. I haven't lost to many deer 2 in 20 years, both in early September when it was hot even in the evening. IMHO though just the smell of that meat would make me sick, and who wants to eat foul smelling meat? :dunno:, but not me.
