Chokes for Doves?

I was wondering what a good choke would be to use for dove hunting or if it's better to not even use a choke? Also might as well ask what a good choke would be for ducks and geese as well.

I shoot an over and under so I shoot Cylinder in one barrel and Imp Cylinder in the other as my shots are usually fairly close.  If they fly further away I swap out the Cylinder for Modified.

If I shot a single barrel shotgun I'd start with Imp Cylinder and probably stick with it.  Usually if one feels they need more choke, that person should probably pass on those shots.

I suggest Modified for dove, ducks & geese

For doves something open like improved cylinder.  For ducks and geese I like full or extra full.  Modified would be a good all around choke.  Or, just leave the extra full in your gun and challenge yourself to be accurate!

For dove, really think it depends on the area.  If you hunt the approach to roost or over some water, Improved is pretty good.  If you hunt them over open, clear fields or in high winds the modified or full chokes might shine.

I use modified for all my bird hunting, dove, quail, waterfowl, grouse.  The key is, you have to practice and know what your gun does with the loads you use and the choke you have.  Pattern your gun at different distances so you know what it does, then you will know where to point when on a bird!
