Who's getting excited for the 1ST
« on: August 20, 2015, 11:30:34 AM »
I am excited to be back in the woods with bow in hand and camo never know when you mite have that opportunity to be close enough to a monster buck to draw the bow you have spent so much time with practicing all year waiting for that one moment when the realse goes off and the arrow leave and hits its mark. It is sure an amazing feeling.

I'm rooting for the bow hunters this year. Going to tuff for lots of folks, but I know this group will sure try and will play their hand.  Good Luck guys and girls!

I was excited until the fires got out of control.  It's so hot and dry out that I am not sure it is worth the risk even being in the mountains and that may not matter if they shut them down...

Here's what I hunted in last weekend down here in CA.  Not ideal, but there were lots of deer still.

 :yeah:

All the bucks I've been keeping tabs on moved on to cooler (and closed) areas.  I'm going out with almost no intel.  Multi-season tag takes the pressure off a bit. Going to be really noisy in the woods - hope to make it work for me rather than against me.   Still, it will be good to be out again with intent to kill.

Noisy is right, but i'm still excited.  I'll be in my blind looking for coyotes this weekend though.  Will give me a chance to see what the deer think of my setup.

Did a couple hours of scouting over each of the last two days at first daylight south of Kitsap.  Other than a single rabbit and a pesky squirrel, I didn't see anything moving at all.  The moon phase is pretty good right now so I'm surprised  at the inactivity.

Everything is bone dry and there's a hell of a lot of smoke in the sky.  I'm still going out on the 1st with fingers crossed.

Not me. After shooting my deer in early September a couple years ago I swore I would never hunt the early archery season for deer again.

Why? Is it just because you ended your season too early?

yeah..why? If I find a shooter buck thats worthy of a tag in November Im hunting him in September...not like you get multiple opportunities at big bucks...its usually lots of days on the stand and hundreds of hours of sitting to hope for 1 opportunity at said buck..I use all the days of both seasons to close the deal on a shooter. And even that doesnt always work out. Last year I sat 23 days in a stand to never see any of the shooters I was after. If I do tag out in September it opens up other hunts..like going to ID and hunting deer or elk

No, it was cause it was so warm out ( 80 that day if I remember right). That once I shot my deer it became a strenuous, stressful struggle to quickly get the deer gutted, drug out to the truck and try to get it cooled down before it started to go bad. All that while fighting bees and flies trying to keep them off of it. Then get home and quickly have to butcher it up and not being able to let it hang. In the end it took all the fun out of the hunt and the meat just wasn't quite as good IMO. So for that reason I now wait till late season to bow hunt.
