300 Win Mag 180 bullet, What Powder?
«

I'm getting ready to load up some 180 grain mag tip bullets for my 300 win mag. I've been looking at the reloader powders, they seem to burn a little quicker and produce higher velocities. But I've had good luck with the IMR powders in the past. What do you like and why?

Not exactly sure what you're asking.... are you looking for input on a particular powder? Exactly what bullet are you loading... is that the old Speer bullet?

After testing Imr4350, h1000, and h4831sc without the results I wanted I tried Rl-22 and found a load that clocks 3120fps with 180gr hornady sst bullets and prints .75" groups out of my savage. The nosler book shows 75.5gr as a max load which is the charge I'm using, the Speer book I have shows 76gr as max, but 75.5 worked so well w/o pressure signs I decided to stick with it.
By the way I used cci250 primers and win. brass.
Good luck

I was asking what powders you like. It is the Speer bullet.

It'll somewhat depend on your particular gun but I've personally had good luck w/ RL19, RL22, and H4831sc. That being said, I've never shot that particular bullet.

I know that my .338 win likes the IMR 4350 powder. I just worked up a load during the fall pushing a 200gr nosler at 3000fps with a charge .5gr under max load. It has no signs of pressure, and puts three shot in a clover pattern.

RL22 is the powder of choice for the 300 Win Mag. My load with 168 grain VLD's has greatest spread of 7 fps for 5 shots! 4831sc and H1000 are also great options.

I'd use either H1000 or H4831.

RL22 is the powder most people seem to use for the .300Win mag. I have two 300WM rifles, and tried R22 and did get higher velocity w/ it than the other powders I've tried. (R19, H4831, and H1000).
I've settled on H1000 for my loads. I found that my rifles get the best accuracy with H1000 and it gave the most consistent velocities over the chronograph.

My father uses H1000 with his 300 win. He likes it! Rl-22 and rl-25 should be good to!
