I would guess that the WDFW will put out some sort of news release warning hunters to verify their hunting areas are open. They usually do. Archery deer season is still a week away.

Might as well put unit 204 in the mix with 101.

CLOSURES:
Okanogan – Wenatchee National Forests closure east of Tonasket and south of highway 20.

That part of 204 south of hwy 20 is for the sake of argument either burned or currently burning, thats basically the whole southern part of that unit that is destroyed, would not surprise me if the north part (north of hwy 20) of 204 is also closed down soon....

To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

And once again this could go on everyday of your life with some tragedy that happens everyday around the world. you better start working more and sell all your hunting stuff and start helping others...maybe a trip to africa is next to help starving kids on your dime.
Drama much???? I'm sure glad I don't have you as a neighbor.

Wish he was my neighbor so I could tail him to his trailcams!   :chuckle:

In the event the closures do happen would they allow people to walk in on foot from the gates or closed roads? Or would it just be a blanket "no entry"?

Nah, he clearly doesn't give a rat's behind about anyone but himself. I want neighbor's who will look out for their neighbor's.
Be more concerned with your character than your reputation. Your character is who you actually are while your reputation is merely who others think you are.

can somebody please tell me why WDFW isn't emailing everyone about this? You'd think that with the season right around the corner, the state should notify license holders to steer clear of closed areas whether it's WDFW owned land or National Forest land.  I hadn't heard about this Sherman closure until I saw this thread today.  How many people will drive 6 hours over there and find out they don't have access? Yes, the majority checks on access before they leave home but not everyone...

Thanks

Why should they email you?
Doesn't everyone have Facebook?

Or you can go to the WDFW facebook for free.

Perhaps this will be where they post it.

For now it appears to be the case, when is his hunt?
If a fire happens on Vulcan it will be a new fire, the ones currently burning i don't see making it that far, but then as of right now who knows.. and if they do make it that far your dads sheep hunt is not the only thing that would be screwed..

Hate to burst your bubble but Vulcan Mtn. is smack dab in the middle of 101 and in the current closure area.

 :sry:

It is west of Hiway 21 which I still believe is the closure boundary.

I usually don't have to go that far into Western Washington to hunt!   :chuckle:

You are correct, i always get confused due to the river being the boundry between 204 and 101.
Now Vulcan is not in the middle of 101, it is the North west corner of the unit. And i did not see that as part of the closure, but could be mistaken on that..

Hmm. I went to Colville last Saturday and ALL the roads on the west side of Sherman and on the south roads had trucks parked there to keep people out. The roads up on 21 just have signs telling us what evac levels each road is.

Basically, if you're smart, stay away from here. We don't need any more problems with hunters causing them.  :bash:

Same with Okanogan and Stevens Counties too.... :bash:

I don't think some of you know or understand, we have close to 60,000 acres on fire in the north half, if you guys know what that means.
That is the north half of Ferry County, NOT including the Colville Tribes North Star fire of nearly 150,000 acres.
kind of a catch 22 over that way.  Businesses could use hunters/tourist money, but the area certainly doesn't need the extra pressure of hunters and hunting camps in the area.  If you aren't over there to see what's going on you have to understand the sense of trauma and stress that even those not in immediate danger are feeling.  The intense smoke creates  a feeling of gloom and doom and virtually everyone  has been personally effected or has family or friends who have.  I won't say don't go over, but I would say that you need to be sensitive to what is really a major disaster in the NE corner. Hunters sneaking into closed areas or onto closed roads or thinking they gotta have a campfire are just one more problem that the area certainly doesn't need.  There are plenty of places in the state to go that aren't effected, and I'd recommend taking a good look at them.

Remember there's been some instances of looting,  a strange vehicle driving around in closed areas isn't going to go over too well.

Today I went up Boulder as far as they'd let me. I was stopped by an Army/National Guard soldier. Turn around she said.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............
