Tribute to Grandpa 1950's montana bucks

These 2 bucks were shot by my Grandpa in Montana in the early 1950's.
They now hang proud in my room.
He also told me that the 30-06 that he gave me last year is the same gun used to whack these boys.
Im a proud grandson.

Pretty cool man.  Nothing like memories of a mentor that you can hang on your wall.  My dad and stepdad have both passed, and I have some racks from both of them hanging in my den.  In fact the biggest rack in my house was a whitetail my stepdad shot up in the Newport area in 1984.  It is ridiculously large and becomes the immediate topic of conversation anytime another hunter sees it.  I do a little hobby taxidermy, and I am working my way up to the monster, turning the racks into heads. 
Thosewere the guys that taught me to hunt, and I can think of no finer tribute to them than to have the evidence of their skill hanging next to mine.
I dig the nameplate, might do something like that myself...

That is great!  My dad just recently gave me a whitetail mount that my grandpa shot in 1939 in WI, has the registration tag still on it.  It's a little aged but still in pretty good shape.  I'm going to hang it next to a whitie I got in '07 and then hopefully next to one my dad got about 15 years ago, some day.

i have 2 of my grandfathers bucks killed in pennsylvania in 1936 and 1944. i learned alot of my hunting skills from him. h was a carpentar by trade. every fall when hunting season started. he stopped working and just hunted. wouldnt that be great!!!   here are the pics 1st one 1936 2nd 1944

they are mounted on some old plaques i had. so the dates on the plaques dont coincide lol.

That's pretty cool. That's why I like having the big mule deer mount of my great-grandfather. Since I never was able to meet him, I can look at the pictures and mount whenever I want.

When I was a kid we had a neighbor that was a serious muley hunter.  The old fella must have had 30 racks around the place, a couple were big 3 points, the lion's share were 4X4 and bigger.  All Washington state bucks, he never hunted out of state.  'Course, most of them were shot back in the "hey-days" (40s, 50s, 60s).  If my juvenile memory serves me correct he had several that were over 30".  All horn mounts, no heads.  He passed away in '84 or '85.  I wonder what ever happened to all that bone...
Had another neighbor who struck it rich in the '50s.  Bought up a bunch of logged off land back during the depression (was working as a logger in the '30s) for pennies an acre, and started selling it after WWII.  Decided to take his fortune and hunt with it.  He had the most impressive game room I have ever seen.  Polar bear, elk, pronghorn, deer, sheep, mountain goats, cougar, caribou, Cape buffalo, wolf, ibex, eland, various assorted African antelope...  Used to be my favorite place to hang out and sketch when I was a kid.  He passed in 1980.  When his wife died in '88, his $#@ing kids sold everything at auction. 

...still makes the "anger sharks" swim in my head..
