Nahwatzel isn't too shabby either

I threw pots in 3 places at Lake Nahwatzel this weekend (2 spots in the outlet creek on the south shore, and one in the lake) and got completely skunked.  Any advice?  I used 2 styles of pots so I doubt it was that.  Canned cat food was the bait.

Water may be  too cold still. Also, an oily type fish is the best bait. I have the best luck using salmon heads I get from the grocery store.

I’ve dropped pots a couple times in nahwatzel without any luck. I wouldn’t waste time there for crawdads

Hijacking a bit to say...if anyone has any spots to share from around the Bellevue area I'm here for them! Been freezing perch heads just for this. Hoping to find some spots where I don't have to get the boat out...do they get up in the creek systems at all? Have my eyes on some spots close to home so I can do some overnight sets after / before work.

We use to work Meydenbauer Bay, and Chism by the rock rips. Pulled a ton out of both locations using just a hand line and a piece of hotdog.

There are crawdads everywhere.
Western Washington lacks fertile waters, same reason why the stocker trout don’t grow as large as the eastside.
Your best bet are the largest lakes and rivers.  I’ve caught many craws out of the green river but it’s never great.  Usually only about 5-10 per trap.
If you find a honey hole on the west side you would be best off keeping it to yourself.  :twocents:

My southern instinct says try some of the small water spots like the creeks I'm thinking of. Those are low cost in terms of time and commitment so I'll still give them a shot. Will try some evening sets off the boat too.

Looked up ways to keep them alive for a while before purging and boiling. I want to run a trap line during the summer during the week if the drive up spots work out. Trap enough and keep them alive through the week to have regular boils through the summer with my buddies.

A coworker from Louisiana ships live crawdads up every year for his birthday. It would be real sweet to get some local for him! Gonna have to have my parents send me some mudbug seasoning up.

I use a fish basket in a hidden spot of the creek to keep them untill I have enough for a feed. I have held them up to 4 days I think, but raccoons will get wet for a meal of them just fyi

When I was like 5 or 6 I remember my old man taking me out a couple times to set traps pretty close to our house in South Seattle. I feel like we were in lake Washington at least some/most of those times but it was a long time ago so my memory may not be great.
