Blacktail velvet vs hard horned?

Curious how many of you guys would rather shoot a mature buck in full velvet vs hard horned if you planned on putting him on the wall?

Hard horned.  Velvet does absolutely nothing for me.   I prefer blacktails later in the season too, when their faces turn gray.

Hard horned, red rack, thick necked bruiser

It only matters to me when I am looking at magazines and pictures though.  When I am hunting, I care about getting him on the ground...regardless of velvet, antler color, cape color, etc.

Kindly do not attempt to cloud the issue with too many facts.

Can velvet go on the wall? Thought it had to be removed anyhow. I am such a meat centric hunter... All I really care about is shooting a legal deer made of meat :)

Bigger antlers = bigger animal = bigger meat

Yes, there are mounting methods now that are pretty good about preserving the antlers, or the look of velvet.

I think velvet looks awesome until about mid July.  Then it's kind of a rag-tag look.

I especially like how antler tips look when they are in full swing growth.  Obviously that doesn't apply to a wall mount.
