This is a dumb question, I'm sure...
« on: August 28, 2015, 01:12:49 PM »
I'm new to WA, so please bare with my stupid question.

If I get a tag for a deer, and catch another buck drinking out of my pond, which I have caught several...

Can I shoot said buck with a bow?

(I was embarassed to ask it, but couldn't find a cut and dry answer)

No, unless you have a second deer tag, because you applied and were drawn for it through the permit lottery, you can only shoot one deer.  You also have to choose your weapon type (modern, archery, muzzle) and can only use one weapon type for deer and hunt that weapon's seasons.

I am not sure I understand the question so I will answer what I think the question is.
You can only harvest one legal deer per season, unless drawn for a 2nd deer permit.

Why would I need a 2nd tag? I haven't even filled a tag yet.

Which tag are you talking about, Modern Firearm, Archery or Muzzle Loader?

If you are asking if you can shoot two deer without having drawn the special permit: no.

It will help better answer your question if we know which method of hunting you choose or are choosing for your tag.

The catch is you said "another".

You can only harvest, kill, one deer a year unless you apply for, and then get drawn a "2nd" tag which would be area and season specific.

You can't get two general use deer tags over the counter.

You can pop a deer in your yard as long as it meets legal requirements and you are in a legal area during an archery season for the area you are in.

Don't forget the lessor weapon part of modern & muzzle loading, we really need to know which tag and season he is planning on hunting to give him a proper answer.

Or another twist, he could have a modern deer tag but his house could be in a firearms restricted area to which he could use a bow to kill said deer at his pond during the modern firearm season...

Used to hunt the modern season with a bow when i lived on the samm plateau
To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

Thank you!

Sorry for the confusion folks.  When I said "another" I meant, I've caught several different bucks drinking from my pond.  I've yet to fill a tag on any of them, I wasn't sure if it was legal.  Thanks for all the help!

This may help   :dunno:

Now why would you start using logic and common sense when it is so much more useful and efficient  to solicit random, confusing and often differing answers on the internet??
