Well, there isn't any dumb questions except the ones that are not asked.

But there really is more information needed before an accurate answer can be given.

I appreciate those who actually tried to help.

I should have just asked if it was legal to shoot a deer on my property in an area with homes around.  That's all I was actually unclear on.

And thank you for posting the big game book for WA.  I could not get the link to launch on my computer from the state site, and that link did the trick.

To those with the rude comments, keep it up guys.  You're awesome.  :chuckle:

If can be done safely, during open season with correct tag and legal equipment, and no pesky Homeowners Asociation rules or local government restrictions that prohibt weapons discharges, short answer is yes...whack it to him.

Then post some pictures and then fire up the  :cue:

Good luck!!!

WDFW regs only cover a portion of legality.  You need to check with county and city too.  If it is legal to practice with a bow, generally it will be legal to shoot a deer there if you have the right tag, in the season dates, with in the regs, etc.

If the deer are around your place in Graham you need to make sure you are not in the county no shooting area.

If you are within most city limits you cannot hunt, regardless if it is your own property or not.

According to that map, I am outside of the no shooting area.

If a deer is drinking out of your pond during archery deer season and you have a archery deer tag you can shoot the deer.

Thank you!

Sorry for the confusion folks.  When I said "another" I meant, I've caught several different bucks drinking from my pond.  I've yet to fill a tag on any of them, I wasn't sure if it was legal.  Thanks for all the help!

I was fooled by the original question as well so don't be too harsh on the guys adding a little levity... there is a lot of angst, especially among the bow hunting crowd, with all of the closures going on.  BTW, not sure I saw any responses that I would categorize as "rude".   :dunno:  Well, except maybe for Timberstalker....   :chuckle:

BTW, I don't buy into the "there is no stupid question" philosophy.  If you have had something explained clearly or if it such a common sense thing that the average 2 year old knows the answer, it might be a stupid question.   :twocents:  This is not, however, implying the OP's question was stupid, it was, as he himself put it, simply not asked clearly.

Hunt on gentlemen, and women.... :archery_smiley:

Another thing to consider is if you shoot a deer on your property and it runs onto a neighbors property will permission to retrieve it be granted?

Excellent point.  I get along really great with my neighbors, so I'm pretty sure that wouldn't be a problem.

If it is legal to practice with a bow

I never even bothered to check into the legality of that.  I have enough distance between the houses around me, I figured it was okay to shoot a bow on my land.  Ugh.

If you are not within the "no shooting area" you are fine to shoot your bow and harvest a deer from your property.

Do your neighbors have pet names for the deer? Do the neighborhood children feed them and enjoy the how tame they are? You could shoot one of the bucks they raised from a fawn and when you shoot it with  an arrow and it goes on their lawn to die in front of the children you may have made mortal enemies for life. Nothing worse that bad blood in the neighborhood. Just need to talk to the neighbors beforehand , then SHOOT!!

I'm still not sure what tag you purchased.  If it was modern firearm, you're stuck waiting until 17 Oct (or whatever the opener is).  No stickin' 'em early, during archery  or muzzy season, unless you purchased an archery or muzzy tag instead of the modern firearm.

I'm pretty sure you already knew that, but I hate to let an opportunity to further muddy the waters pass by without adding additional confusing comment.

Good luck killer!
