Identify the scat
« on: September 01, 2015, 08:37:33 PM »
Went for a hike with the family around the property tonight and found this.

Nearly all hair, I have seen allot of wolf poop in the woods and this seems small and doesn't quite fit the bill, but I have also seen allot of bear scat and it also does not seem to be in that category. So thinking coyote but thought it would be fun to leave it up for a vote? Obviously it's very old, and sorry for the bad pic.

regards,
H&F

Only way to know for sure is to try a little bite.  Flavor is the most foolproof defining characteristic.  Let us know.

Looks like cat to me.... Black from the iron in the blood/meat from the critters they eat, and the hair looks consistant.  :dunno:

Good thoughts everyone! Cougar is a great thought and makes some sense. I (my dog actually) found this at a base of a tree partially covered in ground cover, so I am thinking cougar might be the winning guess.

Time to out up some game cams...Thanks for your thoughts everyone!
