For those that butcher your own game, hanging options in warm weather?

I'm curious if anyone has built a hanging locker of their own in a shop or garage.  I'm considering this for the future, probably not this year but once my new shop is built.  Was thinking to make it able to fit 2 animals of whatever size side by side.  Also thinking to use sheet aluminum with 2 inch rigid foam to insulate it on all sides.  Not sure what i could use for a chiller though.  I don't want it to hit freezing temps but 34-38 degrees would be awesome of course.  Was also thinking to make it so i can break it down when it's not hunting season.  Anyone built something along these lines?

If you're going to build something like that may as well just add a walk in cooler compressor unit and make it permanent. I was actually thinking about finding an old refrigerator, preferably without a freezer on top, removing all shelving and finding a way to install hooks for hanging at least a couple of elk quarters. Has anybody ever tried this? Would a fridge be too confined a space for meat to air out properly?

I bult one in my barn out of plywood, foam board and the refer unit from a Snapple cooler.  It worked really well and when I was done it was easy to tear down and store out of the way.

If you really want something that does store away in the off season look at koolabuck holds 4 deer and and is portable.

I don't consider myself a cheap ass by any stretch of the imagination, but i was hoping to avoid the $3k+ price tag.

There was a thread on here a year or so ago. One of the guys built a unit in the outside stairway to his below ground basement and he used an air conditioner unit for cooling. Can't remember all the specifics but you may be able to do a search on it.

I use a chest freezer with a temperature controller they was about $50. That allows me to keep it just above freezing, and when I'm using apples for baiting I store apples in it and keep it just under 32 degrees. I could fit a couple elk in there if needed.

i actually just got all the supplies to build a 6x8 shed for meat hanging.  going to use 2x6 walls and insulation with a ac unit in the wall.  know a guy who has done this and it worked great.  now i just have to find the time to build it.

As mentioned above, I have a friend that had an old refrigerator. Removed all of the shelving and was able to hang a whole deer in it. This topic is always of concern to me when it comes to the early archery season.

I've used an old double door Pepsi cooler it'll hold an elk plus, & when your done put your beverages back in it. No need to store it away.
 I know a guy that set up his room this yr with a Coolbot (google it). The way I under stand it, It will bypass the AC's thermostat to make it a cooling unit for your meat room. Good Luck!

No problem. The Mylar survival blankets were the best money saving tip I had. I still have two 10 packs that I bought and didn't use. They are so cheap on Amazon. The screws and fender washers was one of my better ideas as well. Good luck on your build. Mine has 3 deer in it as we speak all chilling at a nice 38 degrees.

I do that, but have gotten two dear in it if spaced right, quartered out obviously.
