He said it netted 144 green, so it should end up 142.5-143.

That's about what I was thinking for official score.  Pictures look like velvet was about to be shed so I was thinking 1-2" might even be an exaggeration.  But again, I've never shot a velvet buck that big so I have nothing to base that guess off of.  Really has my curiosity peaked!

Most of my larger hard horned bucks only shrunk in width during drying period.  I was told that was due mostly to skull plate shrinkage and not antler shrinkage.
He asked, Do you ever give a short simple answer?  I replied, "Nope."

For those of you who have been wondering - got the deer officially scored today. 140 5/8" gross and 136 1/8" net. I'm guessing he didn't lose 8" from velvet alone, we probably made some addition mistakes up on the mountain. But hey - he still makes book!

I didn't realize you had green scored it with velvet on.  If you use the 5% velvet rule it appears as though you measured just about perfect.  5% of 148 is 7.4" or 5% of 144 is 7.2 = 136.8"  So shrinkage was about .5-.625".  Very cool that formula works out so well.  Thank you Shane.  Very much appreciate the update

A always like to see success like that Shane. It's a dandy for sure. Congrats on a truly awesome archery, or otherwise harvest. It wouldn't matter what that buck was taken with. It's a trophy buck for sure. I love sneakin up on pigs like that.
