Hunting on JBLM
« on: September 12, 2015, 12:36:43 AM »
Hi y'all...I've been conversing on this forum for several months and have received great responses from numerous members.  Unfortunately, no one can tell where to expect to hunt on JBLB...I'm not looking for anyone's honey hole, just a location where I might tag a small buck

Posts like these never get very many responses.  Wisdom is earned.  Nothing is more educational than getting some mud on your boots.

Also, use the hunt wa search tool and look at old threads where jblb lands were discussed.

Razz, Start by going to the Adventure Center on North Fort to get all the info on what areas are open. It would not hurt to ask the guys at the Shotgun range for tips.  :twocents:

It's hard to give you that information. Be kiss you never know what unit will be open for you to hunt. Jblm has 23 units and not all of them get open for hunting I e hunted it for 18 years you never know when that buck will stand up in front of you its not what it use to be its a tuff hunt any more.  Tall timbers and brush. You have to burn boot leather to find the deer.  Some times you may get lucky and see a deer Erving around. Good luck

I have seen some nice deer near spurgeon creek road if that helps. Also on the westside of Rainier road, but yes, range control seems to close these areas frequently. Good luck..

Check out 4 and 10. I've seen deer there during some field exercises. You'll have to go to NW Adventures and watch a short video. You also have to call to check in and out of areas. I hated all of the regulation, so I prefer to drive 2 hrs or wherever and hunt without any worries.

Hey Razzenof,
A pre-welcome to WA to you.

Are you an Army or Air Force type person?  You should have fun with the Blacktail hunts in Western WA.  If you're used to hunting from a tree stand in Kansas, you'll be in good shape for hunting here.  Personally, I don't like the idea of hunting on base because they apparently control where you can hunt on any given day.  I recommend going towards the mountains and picking your own spot, rather than having someone else pick it for you.

On the other hand, when you just have a few hours, it's nice to be in the woods quickly, so perhaps a bit of scouting on base is in order as well.

Good luck!

Thanks to everyone that replied...as I said I'm not looking for the easy out, I was just trying not to waste my time completely.  Unfortunately due to a military commitment, I won't be around but for the last few weeks of rifle season so I hope to find an area where I can still hunt.

:yeah: These are good areas to hunt.  Get a bear tag too.  Skittish but their in there.  Try still hunting lanes and feeds.
MAGA!  Again..
