Progressives are coming for your guns.
What are you going to do?

Well me, I do not have any guns, gave away or sold them 15 years ago.

When you guys say 1.5 mile drag out are you doing this whole?  Sounds like way too much work.

Yeah elkrunner we did with this cow. Got her in a burn scar so didn't want to gut her and drag getting meat dirty. Wasn't to bad mostly down and across a flat.

1 1/2 mile drag? A full size cow elk?  :yike:

I wouldn't drag a deer even half that far. Man! How was your back after that? :o

She was about a 2 year old cow, backs were fine more sore in arms from holding log up to drag. Adrenaline was pumping for sure through all us guys being it was my first.

No field pics but got this Rimrock cow on Friday of general season. I crested a jeep trail coming out of the timber and sat against a tree to listen for a bit. She trotted through some windows and I couldn't get on her. Thinking she was gone, I stayed put and in a few seconds she appeared coming towards me at about 75 yards. She stopped full frontal, then continued towards me. I waited til she quartered to and let one rip. Tikka 300WSM with 180 gr. Barnes TSX. No follow up shot required. No loss or damage of meat. She ran past at 25 yards and crashed through some trees and crashed 75 yards down hill breaking her lower jaw when she face planted.

Another camp left the Jack-o-lantern and we rescued it. Pretty cool carving....

Things were pretty slow for us in that unit. I did see a nice 6x6 one evening and saw elk every day but not a single spike for 6 of us. My buddies wife did get a great 5x5 on opening day of the bull tag.
Still a great time to be in the woods with a great crew of friends.

I so wish I could transfer a cow tag to someone. It's been killing me sitting in bed unable to get out there, knowing we were so close to them. Combine that with the snow we got... :'-(

Both boys drew upper smith creek tags.  One had a cow tag and the other had both a cow and bull tag.  Here is the cow. It took us 16 hours to pack out and we even ate some of her first.    I posted the bull on 2015 bulls.

My late archery cow, and my nephews first elk taken  during the youth rifle  cow season
I don't always shoot big mule deer, but when I do, it's with a bow tech!

Both elk were taken less then a mile apart, and only two weeks between them
