Smossy's 2015 Hunting Season.
« on: September 15, 2015, 04:33:14 PM »
HAH. Nothing to share. Seen 5 deer in 4 hours, jumped one in its bed and missed 5 shots at it at 25, 30, 45, 45, 50 yards-ish. As I'm walking and stomping around looking for my arrows its walking around feeding taunting me still staying at about 40 yards flickin its tail cause it knows I'm out of sticks. Stupid deer. Sight got bumped pre season. All to the left and high. Fml. Guess that's what I get for being an irresponsible hunter and not checking my gear before I go out. That will be the last time I promise you all.  Such easy shots to. Perfect broadside stopped before every shot. I've been somewhat documenting the whole day on gopro each hour with updates. Not sure if I'm going to compose them and share or just look back and kick myself. First time solo hunting away from roads though. Was peaceful. Made me smile. Even managed to put in an hour nap in the deep just before I jumped that deer. New chapter opened in my hunting journal.

it happens, last year I had a 40 yd shot with my muzzle loader on a doe, broadside, clean miss. after inspecting the gun, my rear site was broken, and had slid up the ramp. had she been at 400 yds I may have had a shot! lol

Lots of positives here. First, you saw deer and got close to them. Two, you learned a lesson about checking your gear before the season.  Three, no deer were harmed in the filming of lessons 1 & 2.

At least you were in the woods and saw legal game.

Man, I know that feeling. A few years ago I failed to notice that the front screw on my scope mount  was loose. After hiking a few miles and putting the stalk of a life time on a good buck, as I pulled up to get ready to shoot from 200 yards away, my scope damn near fell off its mount. There is no better teacher  than experience. Get back on that deer and tag 'em!

Seems like we were all in the same boat once. Still sucks. I've practiced and practiced and pretty much can drill my deer at home at any reasonable range. Then to miss 25-30+ yard shot (s)

Lol :chuckle:, that's too funny. You should just laugh about it, it's a good and funny memory to have! Reminds me of the time I watched my father miss a whitetail doe 6 times at about 50 yards. Lol, he shot all 6 and the deer didn't run untill he went to grab his arrows and was 25 steps from it. I walked up and said, "Did you see anything?" Thanks for the laugh, and it happens to the best of us- keep at it!
