Addict gets his fix!!
« on: September 01, 2015, 06:57:04 PM »
That would be me,  I confess I am a Sharptail Addict and I got my fix today.  Lots of birds holding very tight so today was young dogs only.  Pictured with myself is Danni the GSP and Hank the Pointer.  Both dogs are just 14 months old and this was their first ever wild bird hunt.  Perfect points only or the birds flew.  The second picture is my hunting partner Logan and Daphine the Wirehair, at just 20 months this is her second season and we are expecting great things from her this season.  As a side note Daph came from a Hunt WA. member who got her as a pup and needed to find her a good home due to life changes.  I think they are pleased.

I hope to travel to montana and north dakota this year and try to get into some sharptails.  Are they faster than pheasants?

Nice!  I hope to be able to do that before my setter gets too old (he'll be 7 next year).  Good job!

That's awesome. I am looking at going to MT with my griffon next yr, when he is about 1 1/2. Get him on as many birds as possible 😀
Looks like a great trip!
Well, I didn't drive 13 hours just to shoot once!

Thanks Wild,  You know this line well, He is the Grandson of Flair & Clyde.  I used my Wilson out of those two and bred him to a *censored* Tonk Attitude/Joe Shadow Female.  I got just want I wanted out of that breeding.  The boy's mane is Hank, I really think he is going to be another Blue.  Same kind of personality....

Coyote-out & Fethrduster, IMO don't wait until next year, this is the year to go out.  The last three year have had very mild winters and this spring was perfect nesting conditions.  During this years training camp out there in August we saw three different hatches of Pheasant, Sharpies and Huns.
The Farmers Almanac is calling for severe weather out there the first of next year and we could lose everything so get out there.  The bird numbers are up all across the Dakota's as well.

Might want to try.  Bluemoon is spot on.  This is the year for grouse in the prairies.  The Brittany Chicken Chsmpionship is going on right now in Nebraska. The last few years have been tough for birds, but I've heard they are having lots of finds this year.  That's saying something considering there's been wind and the temps have been in the 90's every afternoon.  Lots of birds in the prairies this year!
