Did you look to see if it had a den? A lot of times those old things will be hollow or dug out at the bottom and you will find where a critter has been laying? Neat old stump with character.

There is no den or dug out in this one. There is one down they way from this one that had a nice big hollow under it. I got my elk about 1/2 mile from this pic that afternoon.

I like seeing those big 'ol stumps with the spring board cuts in them down in the timber. Always wonder what kind of a story they could tell.

If you got your elk near the stump I would  definitely return for a number of years unless there is some drastic changes to the environment. I shot 4 bulls, 4 years in a row out of the same hole within 150 yards of each other.

They do run that area. I see them there a fair amount. My elk to years ago was there and last year just couldn't close the deal on one but saw them there almost everyday.
