Have rear peep, what front sight?
« on: September 19, 2015, 06:16:09 PM »
The muzzleloader I just bought came with a Williams peep. But the factory front sight is really tall so the peep site is shimmed.
I personally do not like that. And want to replace the front sight with a lower one. To get rid of the shim.

What would be a good sight to use.

Is the front sight dovetailed into the barrel? If so I have used Marbels brand front, bot fiber optic and brass bead. Check midwayusa, they have a wide selection of sizes. Also williams sells all sorts of frontsight replacements.

I ended up replacing my rear peep/ramp with a Williams fire sight peep/ramp. And got the fire sight front.

Just got in from shooting in low light and it's amazing.

I really like it - as you look down through the peep you almost get picture like a 1X scope would give you.

I consists of a Williams Streamlined Ramp, a Williams Firesight, and a Fire Sight Hood.  The Fire Sight come in many different heights.

Keep shooting muzzleloaders - They are a blast!!

I am going down the path of Sabotloader with the sight hood over the fiber beed, but I am also going to try out this front as well

http://www.lymanproducts.com/lyman/sights/93-match-globe-front.php

http://stores.leeshavergunsmithing.com/front-sight-insert-cards/

The lyman target globe intrigues me, so I will be trying out both options, but probably not until 2016.  I won't have time before to get to the right direction.

I have been using that Lyman front globe for quite a few years and love it. I use the Lee Shaver inserts in it. Some people do not see it well in low light but it works fine for me.

Where did you get the hooded front sight? I contacted Williams a couple weeks ago and they don't have this hooded version.

JohnnyJohnson

Here is the parts list for this setup.  I get these from Brownells.  Make sure you know these parts are for a Knight.  For anther type rifle you will have to match the part to the rifle.

Williams Front Sight Combinations

Two screws for the ramp...  These are from Brownells

962-020-097WB
Streamlined Ramp 3/16" Screw-on
Mfr Part: 1690

I believe Williams says a .375N front sight for this application - I prefer a .343N as it fit closer to center under a fires sight hood.

962-564-360WB
Red Fire Sight fits 375N
Mfr Part: 56436

962-000-016WB
Fire Sight Hood
Mfr Part: 70031
Keep shooting muzzleloaders - They are a blast!!
