If you are buying a newer gun, look into a Smith and Wesson model 69.  It is a sweet little pistol.  44 mag based on the L frame (same size as a 686 etc.) that is a 5-shot vs. a 6 shot.

X2!!  I've handled one of these a few times and really liked it.  I haven't bought one yet but it's certainly at the top of my must have revolvers list.
