Are you talking about a pistol or a revolver ?

There is a Ruger 41 mag at the Double Eagle Pawn in Deer Park. I offered the guy $200 for it and he laughed at me. He has to hold it for a month by law. It's a nice one too.

I'd stick with a 44 mag Blackhawk. I just bought a used, New Model Super Blackhawk stainless for $400 at a gun shop sale. It's flawless. It was 20% off from $500.
I couldn't care less about what anybody says..............

I'd seek out a SW mod 657.

Find yourself an old Dan Wesson VH .44, if you are lucky you can get one with a complete set of barrels.

If I had to chose I will carry my old model 3 screw 41 mag over my Model 29 always.
But then I am partial to the 41. Have a contender barrel in it as well.

.44mag will probly be easier to find. Lots of load options too so you can "tune" recoil to what your comfortable with.

The DEs have an interesting gas system compared to the recoil system most autos use.

If you are handloading, I would get a .41 mag (My favorite pistol cal).   If you are planning on shooting factory loads I would recommend the .44 mag as ammo is much cheaper and more widely available.

If you are buying a newer gun, look into a Smith and Wesson model 69.  It is a sweet little pistol.  44 mag based on the L frame (same size as a 686 etc.) that is a 5-shot vs. a 6 shot.

44 mag can be loaded hotter, normally more recoil, ammo is easier to find, more variety in ammo, can use 44 special "cowboy" loads to plink with.

41 mag has a prestige about it that just makes them cool.

If you reload the 41 would be fun to have but if you're looking at store bought ammo the 44 is the clear winner. That being said, I'm a 44 special guy that reloads so my Black Hawk sits in between the two as far as what I can get out of it.
