B.O.M.B bags hands down if you bone meat out.

Explain to me how they are "hands down" better than the Kifaru meat sacks that are 1oz. and can hold up to 100lbs of boned out meat? :dunno:
oh man didn't realize we were having a meat big competition and that my personal opinion needed further explanation.

I didn't know we were either, but if you want to make it out that way then whatever.  A simple answer on calling something the hands down best would have been a logical solution to me.  I was more or less curious if you've even tried the Kif meat bags and compared them.  I own them both and there's no comparison in my opinion.  I realize that doesn't mean anything to you, but figured somebody might find that useful when making a purchase.

Meat bags people, meat bags.  Let me get kids fed and the wife slapped around and I will do a detailed review of my experiences with Caribou bags, B.O.M.B. bag kits, and kifaru meat bags, both gen 1 and gen 2, complete with pictures.

Sorry here is the link  :chuckle:

http://www.blackovis.com/t-a-g-bags-bomb-pack-game-bag

Are these the ones that hit Camofire every once in a while?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I think they have but there is also another brand that has popped up.  A buddy ordered a set of brand x so I'll be interested in how they work out.  I haven't gotten to see them yet.  I got mine from Blackovis.
Don;t know if you noticed, but when you click on the link it shows there is a product recall. Don't know if it applies to you, but i says out of stock until January(?) due to product recall.
Ya I mentioned that in my first post.  Something with the seams on a run of bags.  You could literally just bust em open with your hands.  Mine were fine, a buddies were not.  He had a new set in short order though and they are working hard to replace all the bad bags.
Missed your post. Was just trying to help.

All I can tell you is don't use the cheap allen bags. I know at a dollar you're not likely to get more than one season, but it didn't even fit over my spike.
Now then, get your equipment—your quiver and bow—and go out to the open country to hunt some wild game for me.  Gen. 27:3

Ok, so here it goes.  The progression of the meat bag man.  Like lots of folks, I started life with pillow cases and bed sheets.  That's back when I carried a bone saw and we quarter stuff.......literally, sawed them in 4 quarters.  Because thats how dad showed us.  Horrible waste of time and energy.

As I got more high tech, I went down the path of the Alaska canvas quarter bags.  Not quite sure why they call them quarter bags because they will fit all 4 quarters of a deer and half a dang elk.  Very durable but bulky and heavy.  From there I switched to the caribou bags.  Lightweight synthetic material that is very breathable, cut bulk and weight by literally half.

Once I fully realized that quartering animals was kind of pointless as the meat has to come off the bone anyways so you may as well save the space in your pack, the weight on your back, and leave the bones in the woods.  I am a full fledged Kifaru nut.  I love basically anything and everything kifaru and own a good amount of it.  The Gen 2 meat bag worked very well but it was too much bulk and didn't allow for loading my pack the way I wanted to.  That being meat down the middle, gear around the meat and underneath.

The original meat bag is a tubular design with a heavy duty nylon handle on the closed end and a draw string on the other.  Dimensions are 9x26" The original claim on these was 100 pounds of boned out meat.  Fill it up, cinch it shut, and hang it up to cool. Toss it in the pack and no bloody mess.  Perfect bag, kifaru nails it again!  The first time I used it though, I quickly realized that the 100 pound claim was very false.  70 was what I figured you could get in one if you separated the hind roasts and kept your pieces in manageable sizes.  It was hot so I wanted to hang in the shade.  I almost dumped all my meat in the dirt but was lucky and caught the slippage as it happened.  The cordlock wouldn't hold the weight of the meat and was slipping.  No big deal I just threw a knot in it and it was fine.  Got blood all over my pack.  The seams leaked.  Also not a big deal, just add seam sealer.  After a few tweeks they were good to go.

Along comes the bomb bags.  Ultra light weight.  Breathable.  Compact.  Durable.  In my mind the perfect bags.  I used them on multiple animals this year, both deer and elk and they ran flawlessly.   Material is very durable for as thin and lightweight as it is.  I can run a minimal kill kit for deer with two bags or the full kit for elk.  There are 4 bags that are a tubular design and are 14x34".  Those are for the boned quarters.  Two more bags that are 14"20 that are for trim meat.  Like I said before, I can run 2 quarter bags for one boned out deer or 4 quarter bags for most size elk.  Chasing big bulls I'd toss in the additional trim meat bags.

So to answer a previous question, I prefer the bomb bags over the Kifaru meat bag for multiple reasons.  Breathability.   The Kifaru material is meant to be waterproof, therefore does not breath.  It's very lightweight so it dissipates heat quickly but not like lightweight cloth.  Second is cost.  Takes two kifaru bags to do a mature buck if you take every scrap like I do.  At $25 per bag, that's the same price as a set of 6 bags you get with a bomb kit.  If elk is the name of the game you will need 3, 4, or 5 kifaru bags to finish the task.  Obviously 5 would be like a huge rosie but you can do the math.  Thirdly, I found the 14" opening on the bomb bags to be much easier to wrangle meat into than the 9" opening on the Kifaru bags.   Weight is a wash because bag to bag they are virtually the same weight.

Just a side note, since I couldn't remember dimensions on the Kifaru bag and my buddy buckmasterwa still has them from his montana trip I looked at their website for dimensions.  Since I bought mine they have changed the description of the bag.  They now claim 75lbs of boned meat and now specify that they need to be seam sealed and that knots are the best option for closure as the cordlock will slip under weight.  Good to see they clarified all that.  I still think 75 is a stretch unless you are really packing it in there with smaller chunks.

I'll follow up with some pictures in a bit.  I'm typing this on my phone so I hope I got it all  :chuckle:

First pic is the Alaska canvas vs. The caribou bag.  Like I said before, same dimension, half the weight and bulk.

Second pic is two bomb bags, the 14x34 ones next to the other two.  Enough to do one deer.

This is my kill kit for a deer hunt.  Two meat bags for boned out meat, havalon and a handful of blades, usually like 10.  I keep a spare orange vest for hanging on antlers so I don't get shot, and a garbage bag is always in there for if I have to dump meat in a creek or pack in snow on a glacier.

First pic is the full kill kit in a small kifaru pullout.

Second pic is of small holes that form rather easily in the material.  Very strong stuff but when it comes to abrasion,  they burn up quick.

Third pic is another style of pullout.  They are cordura.  I went to them for my misc kit that holds all the odds and ends that never leave my pack.

Sorry here is the holy pic

And for the record, I am in no way saying that the cloth bomb bags are more durable than the kifaru bags.  The bomb bags will tear wide open on a sharp rock or branch.  The Kifaru material I have found won't run when torn like cloth does which is a big plus.
