Mystery Ranch Longbow Review
« on: September 29, 2015, 02:18:19 PM »
Last month I pulled the trigger on Mystery Ranch Longbow.

What I liked:

First impression pack is built well, sturdy and quality product.

I was able to put the pack to work over the archery season. I used it to help pack out my buddies bull, unfortunately for me wasn't my own bull :chuckle:. Oh well!

Pack made easy work packing out the quarters, although no load shelf with the Longbow using the compression straps and placing in the x pattern worked perfectly fine. Weight was balanced, didn't feel fatigued and once everything was compressed down hiking out was fairly easy.

Pack has ample storage for all the extra accessories, holds a 3L water bag with no issues, the waist belt is great for adding on accessories such as holders for the rhino radio, range finder, water bottle holder, etc. Longbow will handle all of your day hunts, short over nights and weekend  adventures.

What I didn't like:

Pack is noisy!!! Although I was elk hunting the Eastside whenever I got into thicker brush it was hard to be quiet. Also, the load lifters would get hung up on branches which was annoying. I called Mystery Ranch and they suggested placing the loadlifters inside the pack and reinstalling when ready to pack-out meat. Reasonable suggestion and will give it try. I do like having the loadlifters on since the weight isn't on my shoulders.  Their response regarding the noise was due to the materials used and not wanting to use lesser quality materials which would sacrifice carrying capabilities and quality. For 2016 Mystery Ranch are making covers which will eliminate the noise issue.

If your looking for a rugged day pack with over overnight/weekend abilities the Mystery Ranch Longbow will get the job done. Buying new packs now days are big investment overall I'm happy and would purchase additional Mystery Ranch products
