Moose Shed Help?
« on: January 16, 2009, 11:47:58 AM »
I've found several deer and elk sheds in my life, but all on the west side.  I've also come across a few whitetail sheds over here at school, but I really want to find a moose shed.

For deer and elk I've always just covered miles of trails keepin' my eye out for 'em.  Anything different for moose?  What age timber should I look in?  Elevation?  River bottoms/draws/ridge tops?

Any tips from you guys here on the east side or Idaho would be greatly appreciated.

I've found all mine in AK and Alberta...don't spend enough time in WA moose country, but you look for them the same way.  Moose have longer legs and can navigate deeper snow more easily but they will be focused on food sources, naturally.  Wait a while though - no use (just harm) in entering wintering grounds before the snows lift.

most moose sheds will be under the snow...you have a while to wait.

Not going into the mountains or anything, just like 20 minutes outside of Moscow. . . There isn't really any snow where I'll be except for piled snow from plows.
