I talked my brother into buying a .260 Savage Long Range Hunter and that thing after I worked up a load is an absolute tack driver. 140gn Bergers. My buddy last year bought a 6.5 Creedmoor in a Savage LRP (yes its heavy but solid for some long range pokes) also loaded 140 Bergers for him also and its also a tack driving SOB. I would have no issues using either for what your intended use is. (PASSED 500) Hell my .243 and 95gn VLDs have killed muleys from 200-503yards with EXCELLENT results. I also killed my bear in avitar with the same load.
Avid ARCHERY deer and elk hunter.
Coyote killer in the off season.

7mm can be nasty 200 bucks adds a break and would make it a dream for what your doing that would be a good option. Through a extremely bipod at 11 oz on it  with some 168 vlds ....... in less you just want more guns ... I'm OK with that too  :chuckle:

Love the round. Mine shoots all the bullet weights great. The 130gr berger vlds are one of my favorites. Mine is the savage 12 lrp. Not light but very accurate. My second creedmoor is a savage varmint action with a shilen polygonal 4 groove.

42.5gn of H4350 is what it liked. It had no pressure signs but it shot a .396 group right out of the box shooting prone on the ground so we left it at that.

6.5 creedmoor in the shorter barrel will still shoot lights out to 400 yards and beyond.  If you don't believe me, just ask Rem14 as his wife shoots the savage lady hunter in the 6.5 cm with great results.  I think he loads 140 grain bullets for it.     Great rifle if you are looking for light weight and compact.

With the above being said......my wife shoots the savage lady hunter in .243 and 7mm - 08 and both are shooters.  The 7mm-08 is a shooter for sure.

My custum 6.5 is flat lights out sitting on a 700 action .that 140 berger  out of a 30 inch pipe gets it done !

Hard to beat a high BC bullet that's flying pretty fast.
Big fan of the Berger 140 VLD or the 140 Hybrid

ok I've decided on a 260 rem beings that it seems to be pretty much the same as the 6.5 creedmoor. since the savage light weight only offers it in a 20" barrel I'm kinda wondering if there are any other options with a little bit longer barrel but still a light weight rifle?

The 20 inch barrel in the Creedmoor will still get out there and kill anything you want.
